Does anyone have any experience with a Toyota Sequoia 4x4??
I'm looking for a large 4x4 SUV, a weekend warrior vehicle...
Thanks,

Parts will be ALOT cheaper for a sububan/tahoe.

If you are planning on useing it for a ranch/hunting vehicle, I would say yes. For something else I do not know.

I'm planning on using this vehicle for road trips to the beach, camping, kayaking, and not just for hunting.
Reliability is actually more important than off road capability, but I don't want to be afraid to drive it off road.
From the websites that I can find the Sequoia seems like the best of both.

After spending the last twenty+ years as a mechanic the most important item on a used vehicle is the cost of parts and labor on repiars. There is no comparison in the cost difference between any toyota and a sububan/tahoe. Go to autozone.com and look up the price for a waterpump, starter and alternator for the two and then call pepboys and see what the labor cost is. The most common failure on the GM vehicles would be the fuel pump which is preventable by changing the $10 fuel filter about once a year.

You will never convince the yota guys of the statement above as true. I am not nor would I ever question the reliability of the toyotas. I am just pointing out the costs.

Well out of curiosity I figured I would do your little test and compared a 08 Suburban to an 08 Sequoia on water pump and a starter and what do ya know they were not even close however it was the opposite of what you stated with the Toyota being way cheaper. Water pump Suburban-191.99 Water Pump Toyota 119.52 Starter Suburban after core 149.99 Starter Toyota after core-124.99 funny how that worked out

Autozone, Pepboys???? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Hahaha, just giving you grief. I only use OEM for my Toyota's. 235k miles on my 1993 Land Cruiser, and I just drove it to Florida and back (1,700 miles) with no problems and smooth driving! She loves the gas though. grin

Another question, what motor does it come with (4.7 or the 5.7)?

They come with the iforce 4.7
I also checked the prices at autozone, the toyota was cheaper, I was totally surprised!
I had a 1987 pickup, took it all through the everglades, great truck.
Now I just gotta find one....lol
Thanks for all the replies!

Ok well I went back to 01 to compare the vehicles then since that was the first year of production for the Sequoia and its prices were water pump 115.99 and starter 71.99 where a 01 Suburban water pump was 119.99 and starter was 149.99 so your statement about the suburban/tahoe parts being ALOT cheaper is false

I'm with cannon...my 94 Land Cruiser is sitting at 235K as well. The reliability is unreal, I just wish the gas mileage was better.

I think TEXASLEFTY was refering to more of a beater lease vehicle rather than a drive out on the open road vehicle, like and 80's model or so.

I have driven several yotas and no complaints, but I also drove a 1/2 ton chevy for 16 years and 265K miles and it Only left me sitting 1 time, a plug wire coroded through... it had 160K on it and never had a tuneup.. and it still ran, just roughly.

I sold it in great running shape and wish I had it back.

Yeah, I was looking for a newer vehicle, but y'all keep talking about those 90 model land cruisers, might just have to expand my search...

If you want to look at the Land Cruisers, read up on ih8mud.com

91-92 (3FE motor), 93-97 (1FZ) Land Cruisers are known as the 80 Series. Your location says San Antonio, lots of cruiser heads there.

http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/

Be prepared to be overwhelmed with info. grin
