Wanting to get a feeder to put out soon. Wanting to stay under $150. Any recommendations?
I have been looking at these two. Any opinions or experience with either of these?

I have the game winner 100lb hanging feeder. The 12 feeder motor did well (I do have worries about it getting clogged and dealing with built in varmint guard though). It is all metal - no plastic like moultrie feeder unit. Only problem I had is how the hopper part of feeder is assembled - each side is a separate piece that you have to bolt together. Entire thing is modular which leaves a lot of small cracks for mositure to penetrate. Ihave not hung it yet but I have alrteady silicones the inside and all cracks and creases and put water proof tape along outside. All in all it was a good buy. We'Ll see how it does on its second year.
I do not have the moultrie yu are referring but bought one of the 5 gallon moultrie hangers last year. It did fantastic. Ran off of 4 "D" batteries that lasted forever. Check this out. I put batteries in the feeder in early december. Took it down in february. To store it I put it inside my 55 galon feeder. Well two weeks ago when I was getting my feeders out I heard a noise - it was the moultrie going off. I was amazed and really impressed. I will not hesitate to buy another moultrie feeder motor. By th way don't buy a 5 gallon - to much of a pain having to fill it all the time - unless it is a temp feeder.

I've had good luck with the cheap Remington feeders sold at Academy or Walmart.

When it comes to feeders I would stay away from Cabelas. I personally thing while for the most part the have great merchandise this is one area they fall short on. I would look at the remingtons and such. You can always upgrade the motor and such at a later date if you want/need to. I would also go with a 12 volt if possible.

X2 I have three that have been going for 5 years i have the wildgame version which is about the same thing as the remington. it is 6 volt. easy on the battery and multiple timer settings, amounts and RPM's. example: http://www.amazon.com/Wild-Game-Innovati...058&sr=8-47 screwed it to the bottom of a food grade barrel, put on some legs, added a funnel inside and slip on lid.

I been using American Hunter feeders now for 3 years and love them. Most come with a varmit zapper and I don't have problems with those 4 legged bandits climbing on to the feeder. I've put solar panels on both feeders and both feeders have been worry free and always go off. Hope this helps.

I'm kinda leaning towards this one below. Its onpy $79.99 and I can't find a significant difference in the Moultie feeder that is $129.00. Anybody ever use on?? http://www.basspro.com/American-Hunter-225-lb--Tripod-Feeder/product/10211746/-1806058Also, I have a couple battery questions. 1. Can you install a solar panel on any feeder? Or more specifically, can the one I mentioned above have a solar panel installed on it? 2. How long will a regular (non-rechargable) 6-volt battery last for feeder...say that feeds twice a day for 7 seconds? Thanks!

Academy used to have a 55 gal feeder for $149 although they only advertise the 30 gal. Great feeder for the price, get the funnel for the bottom because it wont drain all out.

Well, I decided to get the American Hunter 225lb tripod feeder as Bass Pro. Not the nicest, but it will do...especially for $79.99.
I want to attach a solar panel to the feeder. Do you guys have any tips for me as to how to do that? It has a snap-in to attach the cord to the solar charger.
Where and how do I attach the panel itself? Maybe use self tapping screws on the outside of feeder barrel and run the cord into the motor unit?
Also, the battery it uses is spring top...and the solar panel has alligator clips. Whats the best way to attach panel to the battery...just clip it to the springs??
Thanks!

I just got a solar panel from Academy and rechargeable battery also. I used the brackets that came with panel and took some hose clamps and clamped the panel to the feeder leg facing the sun. Then I just clipped the leads from the panel to the battery and installed it. It is tight but can be done you may have to change the leads from panel around just a bit. But it will work both of mine are setup this way. Just remember it is 6 volts.
