Was at a local Gun Shop today in north dallas and was in line to check out and was behind a person filling out a 4473. They were purchasing a Win94 and some kind of polymer style pistol. The person was approved for the rifle but was denied on the pistol. That person scratched their head and said WTF a weapon is a weapon you ok one but not the other? pays for the rifle then leaves. I asked the salesman after the person left and was told there are different standards between styles of weapons heck you dont even need to fill out the form for black powder muzzle loaders.Hmm I wonder how many people died from a muzzle loader I asked. He looked at me like I Leprosy. STRANGE

My friend gets turned down for ARs, but not pistols and shotguns.

Unless things have changed from 3 years ago when I ran the gun dept at a pawnshop the form ask handgun or longun nothing about ar ak any assault weapon. I dont see how that can be. As far as the OP out of all the guns I ever called in I never experienced that. It may have had something with that shop not wanting to fill out a multiple gun report.

Beats me what the reason was. It was an old man and as he was walking away I said they have to tell you why. He said piss on em' I laughed and minded my transaction.

Not sure what the age of purchasing a rifle is but if its under 21 he could purchase that but you have to be 21 to purchase a pistol. Maybe that was the reason.

You have to be 18 to buy a rifle or shotgun and 21 for a handgun. Thats the only difference in standard for purchasing I can think of.

Not sure why DG's friend would be turned down for AR's. All they ask when doing the background check is if its a handgun or long gun. They dont even ask if its a single shot or simi auto.

Only thing I can come up with is age Requirements, generally so to speak if you called NICS with a pistol/long gun you would be denied for bot, not one or the other.

On the note of AR's again, NICS has no clue what is being purchased other than Long Gun, Handgun, Other. So most likely that was the store using the old fall back of blaming big brother when they did not feel comfortable completing a sale. I don't like denying somebody but I personally will be up-front when denying a sale as to why it works a-lot better with resolving the problem and handling people skills.

I get a hold put on any firearm about 30% of time when purchasing. Guy at gun shop said if you have ever been arrested, they automatically put a hold on the buy. Usually get a call from gun shop bout two to three days later saying everything is kosher
