I just bought my first golf cart for use at the hunting lease. It's not lifted yet, as the terrain is pretty flat. I've noticed that everything on the underside is pretty 'open'...meaning that nothing is really enclosed form the elements. The foot pedal and brake gear, battery compartment, etc...is not well protected. Do I need to be concerned with dust/mud flying up into the equipment? Do I need to fabricate some sort of protection for the gear on the undercarriage? Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If you do raise it make sure the wheels don't rub on anything. I bought one that was like that and I never knew it until I had a load in the back....Almost ruined a tire. I never had any problems otherwise.

Wet brakes don't work well at all. Wet wiring will eventually cause shorts and rust out. Staying out of water and not running over any big rocks/bumps will help avoid some problems until you get something under there to protect it.

Go with a Jake's Lift Kit. They are far superior to most. I've seen some of the cheaper versions that only require you to change out the hubs and some are pure carp. Buddy did his cart with one and everytime he turns sharp the dang wheel falls off. You can get lots of parts including tires/wheel combo from www.BuggiesUnlimited.com

Go to Shopezgo.com and they have everything you need there. Jakes lifts are ok but the ezgo lift kits are the best. very heavy duty.

I have used a golf cart for a couple of seasons now and I'm pretty happy. It is gas powered, but the underside is still open. The terain is hilly, and real rough in places, we have a pretty steep hill that it dosent like too much but it gets up there. I have had no issues with puddles or water, and I leave it at the lease year round, locked up and covered with a tarp. I have had no problems with moisture or mud causing problems with the bottom being open. You just have to remember it dosent matter if it's lifted or not it's still a golf cart.
