I am planning on taking a trip to Lake Meredith in the the Texas Panhandle and was wondering if any body had any advice for me. We are going to be spot and stalk archery mule/whitetail deer hunting and since none of us have ever been and it's like 430 miles from us I was just wondering what to expect terrain wise and anything else anybody wants to share. Any feedback is appreciated.

A lot of canyons and caves. Water level on the lake is down a ton and many bluffs and hills.

My son and I have been there twice, yet to see a deer alive.Alibates flint quarry has some great terrain close to the lake(Cant actually hunt alibates area)tons of sign, hunt near the lake (whats left)lots of cattaills where deer bed down.Get up early, you have to be out when the sun comes up.Lots of gunshots in morning, zero in evening. We did see people that were succesful,it looks like a pumpkin patch with all the blaze orange.Lots of people out there.Beautiful country just wide open. except close to the water.Lots of lawmen, make sure everything is on the up and up.Bring a camera,it is very scenic.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

just wait until they go to the lake. that lake is so salty they will float on top after you shoot them just poking a bit of fun at the lubbock water supply since it comes from a mix of good tasting aquifer water mixed with mineral deposit heavy lake meredith water.
Stuff my dad said in the deer blind
"I can dive deeper and come up drier" "did you do that?"

Archery season is not bad there not to many people. Spot and stalk is very difficult. The whitetails are very jumpy, the mule deer not so much. You can contact the park service head quarters in Fritch. The can mail you a map of the hunting areas. Depending on the dates your coming. In rifle season you can hunt bow and shotgun only areas to improve your archery chances. I can help you with most questions. I have hunted the park for 20 years or so fell free to pm any questions and I'll help you with anything I can

Like others havestated lots of hunters & not many deer. Didn't see a WT when we were there & only seen maybe 10-12 mulies.
No doubt about the AR crap, just damn shame hunters don't have self control and knowledge

We probably average 2 to 3 a year out of 4 of us. Only 2 of us hunt everyday we can the others are hit and miss. Last year we took 1 mulie and 3 wt, a couple more were missed. One thing to remember is this will only be the third year of a full season. Before that you had 2 weeks and it was buck only. So the deer have changed a bit in the last couple of seasons. The wt does realize they are on the menu and don't mess around now. The mule deer does still act like cows. Sure there's alot of people in rifle season but the deer are still there. First deer we harvested last year was the Monday after opening morning, and the last was last day in mid afternoon.

No mulie does. The lake has a pamphlet of there hunting season. It usually matches potter county. Except coyotes, raccoons, and rabbits which can only be hunted during quail season. They also have diffrent rules for turkey.
