Thanks for all of your support. I have tried to call and all that you get is an answering machine at their office. LOL! Oh well. I don't know who is going to enforce the lockout? Gonna have to cover alot of ground whoever has to do it. It involves over 6-7 leases and over 6000 acres. So I don't feel to discriminated against.
Fireworks are BANNED in our county so we are going to shoot guns all weekend in our backyard. We have taken all neccessary safety and legal precautions. The neighbors will be there HELPING and SHOOTING. Plenty of plastic water bottles with food coloring for targets. Have a GREAT weekend everyone!

Glad to hear you have a plan B, and it sounds like you will be having more fun than if you had gone to the lease.

You got lemons and made lemonaid.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

UPDATE as of 7-2-2011 we are locked out until further notice. With ONLY 90 days until hunting season opens, This STINKS to HIGH HEAVEN.

What company owns the land? What county, what club? I lease from two different timber companies, but have not been locked out. That sucks

Okay, at this point you deserve an explanation and partial refund. If you pay for a yearly lease, they can't lock you out indefinitely unless it stipulates that right in the contract. I'd probably demand an explanation in writing.

Do you have a lease agreement?

What does it have to say about your access? And what does it say about either party (you or the land owner) ending the agreement?

Have you done anything to violate the agreement and what are the properties around you going for?

I'm wondering if the NEW forester is trying to break the agreement, so they can get more money or just stop leasing all-together.

I'm betting it is drought related. With a roughly 20 yr growth cycle on timber, I'm sure that their thinking is that the lease income is a pittance compared to a loss if one of you was to accidently start a fire. Wasn't the fire near Jasper started by a couple of hunters having target practice with a propane bottle? You can bet that the decision to lock everyone out was mad a level or 2 above the guy that passed the news on to you. Desperate times / desperate measures... Unfortunately, you are the guy that gets hosed in the deal. If it's a good lease, ride it out and pray for rain. You don't want to get ugly and have them boot you...

Sorry it took so long to get back. Our lease is in Polk County. It is an old Champion Int company lease that is now owned by Paces Creek Ltd. Meridian Forestry is the company that manages for Paces Creek Ltd(Atlanta GA). I can't get any more detailed with the where and who. I do know that OTHER area leases STILL have access. We have broken the money down to a per day figure. Thank Yall for your support.

So are y'all still locked out? If this is going to be a long-term thing with them then I'd start making other plans.

there isn't much timberco land in the area anymore that isn't up for sale; might have something to do with it.

Who knows how long they will keep this up? It is SUPPOSED to be a DROUGHT issue. I am HOPING it does not get worse. If it will just RAIN then MAYBE?

Good Lord if they're not going to allow you onto the lease for an indefinite amount of time then I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock into that lease this season.

I can't believe you have been messing around with it this long. Tell them to let you back on it or give you your moeny back and access to go remove all your gear.

You need to move on.

If it involves a large number of leases and hunters, would a class action lawsuit be in order?

Surely someone broke a contract by not living up to their end of the deal, and compensation should be in order.

As I stated in an earlier post, you might check the fine print of your contract to see if what they are doing is legal, and from what information you've given so far, it probably is.
