I got a brand new '09 Admiral a few months back. I thought it was a good deal. I know there are newer bows with newer technology but a brand new Bowtech for $500 was a good deal and will hopefully last it's money worth. This will be my first time bowhunting.

x2 on the PSE Stinger, Hopedale, I started with it and killed many deer and a few hogs with it. It is a great starter bow, and is relatively inexpensive with the starter package!

I hadn't been online in a few days, but find it comforting that a couple people have recommended the Bowtech Assassin. After shooting many different brands and models, I found the bowtech to be the one I shot best consistently. Probably could have went cheaper going used, but I haven't shot better groups with any other bows, even brands with higher price tags. Looking to bag a hog or two or a dozen this next week with it...

Shoot last years model still available at the pro shops and know what you want.
Wait about 2 months before the season and people will be selling in order to buy the new kool aid
You could get top of the line for the same or not much more than a box store bow.
