i have been filtering through other post looking for info on which bow to buy for the price. it would be more helpful if i posted a few bows with prices and if you guys could spell out some advantages and disadvantages of each. would like to expand my hunting opportunities on public land and bow seems to be the only way to do it. what other stuff will i need.

PSE Stinger™ Bow - $249.00

diamond archery rock 2.0 - $329.00

pse brute package - $499.00

i really dont have the cash but would like to look into it seriously. i bought a bear? bow when i was in high school and was really good with it but sold it in early college for needed funds. never shot any animals with it.

would be very interested in buying a used bow if anybody has upgraded recently.

thanks fellas

My suggestion is for you to shoot each one and see which feels best to you. Kind of like chosing a truck. I'm not going to take the advice off someone via the intrawebs before I personally go drive each one. I might not like the seat in one that someone else thinks is very comfortable, etc, etc.

I see you are in DFW. My suggestion would be to call Jim at Alvarado Pawn. He is super helpful and knows his stuff. He's a Mathews and Bowtech dealer, but he takes bows in on trade all the time. I bet he has something used that would not only fit you perfectly, but your price range. It's at least worth a call to talk to him. 817-783-7296

Stan over at Smithfield is also very helpful, but I'm not sure if they have used bows.

I wasn't very impressed with the service at Cinamon Creek Ranch, but maybe I just caught them on a bad day.

You've got a couple different things going on there. As much as you are looking at getting into it an older bow with a good string would probably be just about what you need. No reason to buy bottom of the line new when you can get something decent lightly used.

$200-$300 should buy you a real decent 5 or so year old bow, but if you had some to try out you might have a clue what you are looking for.

The stinger and Diamond would both need a number of acessories to get you ready into the field where the Brute is ready to go but typically on these package deals they are boarderline junk and can do way better searching around used.

Great advice here!

Of the 3 mentioned, The Diamond Rock 2.0 is the best. Sounds like you're looking at a bass pro shops, or Cabelas catalog. Believe it or not, you don't want to buy a bow there. Their hunt packages are garbage and you will want to upgrade the parts anyways. And, you wont find a Mathews , Hoyt, or other really good bows there. Whatever you decide to with, check e-bay. I have bought my entire bow set up from there and I saved A LOT of $$$$

Don't get me wrong, they have good bows, but if you're going to be shooting and hunting a lot, try a few at a bow shop and then try some at bass pro or Cabelas, shop around. Don't forget e-bay.

Deer don't care what bow hit them. Go with one you like shooting and feels good to you.

Id get the rock but id buy it from here instead. You will pay 25 mor but get arrows, field points, broad heads, release, and a case, also it will be set up and tuned by pros not some dude at Cabelas who doesn't know what they are doing.

The 2011 Stinger is an awesome bow. It's plenty fast, it's quiet, it's smooth, and it's priced right. I have owned a brute, and I think the 2011 Brute is the most underrated bow in PSE's lineup this year, but for the price, it's hard to beat the Stinger. One of my friends bought one, and he absolutely loves it. I can't say much about the Diamond. There's not many bowtech shops around where I live and the one that is close is not a place I would do business with.

Also, check out the classified ads on Archery Talk. There are hundreds of used bows for sale there. You could probably get a really nice 1-3 year old bow rigged out for $300-$450. There are plenty of people like me over there who buy and sell 3-5 bows a year.
