I have a DPMS AR-15. It has the carry handle site, and a 20" stainless steel bull barell with 1 in 9 twist. On the magwell on the lower it says it is a model A-15. I cannot find this model on their website. SO, Im coming to the PRO's. Is it a older model? Is it a discontinued model?

not really sure but hope this helps
I have a dpms and my lower also says a-15 if the serial number has a k on the very end then you have what is called a kit AR which means the lower and upper were purchased at seperate times since this would not be a factory build then the lower was stamped a-15 since it could actually be used for different uppers and calibers and not registered as a specific AR type This in no way drops the quality of the rifle at all mine shoots great and have no problems.

If you just want a shorter barrel than any 5.56 or 223 caliber will work with your lower with no alterations here are some other options
.22lr,.204,6.5, 6.8, .450 Bushy, 9mm, .40, 10mm, .45, 5.45x39, 7.62x39, 50 Beowulf
These are the most common calibers that are combatible with your lower reciever. These would require a different bolt carrier group and mags. 16" 18" or 20" barrels are the norm
you could also use the lower to build a sbr or pistol but it requires a class 3 license and comes with a $200 per year fee
figure out what your needs are and what ammo would be affordable

I got a reply from DPMS. They are calling it a "Panther DCM" Does this sound familiar?

Based on your description it is not a DCM rifle. the Dcm has a heavy barrel with A2 flash hider yours has a bull barrel with no flash hider also the Dcm has a 1 - 8 twist and yours a 1 - 9 so I am going to stick with your rifle was not a factory build as I had mentioned does your serial number end in the letter "K" As far as shooting a 22lr thru your rifle drop in kits are around $150 and you will only switch out the BCG and mag takes less than 5 mins even when you take your time with your bull barrel it should be quit accurate but that kit is mainly used so you can enjoy your rifle without having to go to the bank $$$$$$$$$$ Then when you are done just switch it back and go shoot some varmints********** Before trying other options you should just go and spend some time with what you've got. Getting familiar with all the workings before you start modifying Just wondering couldn't you just ask the guy you bought the rifle from.....?

you could also use the lower to build a sbr or pistol but it requires a class 3 license and comes with a $200 per year fee
Umm No, First off a Ar-15 pistolis just that apistol, that is not capable of afixing a shoulder stock. As such it is not rgulated under NFA so no Tax is paid and it is considered a normal Title I weapon per BATFE. Just don't have multiple pistol uppers with spare rifle lowers. NEXT Nobody Purchases a "Class 3 License" the term class three refers to FFl Dealers whom pay a "SOT" Special Occupation Tax to deal in Title II Weapons regulated under NFA. What you as individual procure is a BATFE Form 1 Manfacture or Form 4 Transfer Document fill it out correctly and pay for the $5 or $200 Dollar Tax for the Transfer or Manufacture. LIFETIME of your ownership its a once paid Tax, unless you transfer it then its paid again.

Alot of manufactures stamp the same model # regaurdless of the actual configuration if that makes sense. For instance Every Bushmaster I have ever layed hands on says Model XM15-ES2, yet they have several variants Ie Patrolmans Carbine, Varmint, DCM, so forth and so forth. DPMS makes some good stuff, most people buy them to upgrade parts or use as a base for builds. In reguards to caliber change, it should be a Mil-Spec lower, so any upper that is mil-spec should fit. So its as simple as buying a new upper in the caliber you want complete with BCG and magazines. I would stay away form the drop in 22 Rimfire Kits that replace the BCG I have had nothing but problems from them, fora few dollars more you can have a dedicated .22lr Upper.
