This will likely get me flamed, but I'd save and buy an AR.

Minis are good guns though.

They are good, but too expensive now. A new one cost nearly what an AR does and an AR is better in every aspect (way more accurate, mounting optics is much easier/better, mags are wayyy cheaper, suppresses better, more parts etc). If they were cheaper I would like them more. I had one growing up, good gun.

Their accuracy is comparable to an AK. Although I have heard of some of the target models being pretty accurate.

I have a chance to get one really cheap but can decide between the minim or a 1911.

CDNN has several variations of trade-in Mini 14 models in their last catalog. Retractable stocked GB models and others ranging from $400 to $490. Target and Circassian models for $700.

If I were choosing between an AR15 and Mini14 I would go for the AR for the reasons given, but a man can't have too many guns and those are some decent deals. I have an older Mini 14 Ranch that I guess I was lucky with as it shoots as accurate as I am able to manage.

If you can get one for "really cheap", no reason not to go with it now and upgrade to the AR later.

I've owned minis off and on for years, currently own a series 189 mini 30, accuracy so so..my mini 14 tactical new series 581 shoots 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards with a 2x7x33 Redfield...I love it. if you like the Garand actions you will love minis, like said before they run $600 and more brand new right now and for an extra $100 you can get a mid price AR 15.

Couldn't agree more. I've had a few Mini's over the years, I only ever had one that was up to the accuracy potential of the round. If you can get a GOOD deal on one, go for it then upgrade to an AR later.
