They are very palitable but I would not mix them in with protein. If you are spinning corn then I would mix them in the spin feeder. If they are cheaper than corn then I would use them instead. Deer will eat them very well but cost wise they are in a 40# bag vs 50 lb and can get pricey.

If they are cheaper than corn lb for lb then I would use them as they are more protein and have some added minerals.

Used it one year on a lease that we did not feed protein thinking at least it was something besides corn. Not one time while it was throwing did I see deer activity around that feeder. Put corn in when it ran out and the deer were right back. I know it takes time for animals to get used to something new, but that stuff sat on the ground at two different leases, one in south Texas and the other in the Hill Country, and the deer wouldn't touch it. So I am sticking to 20% Pellets and corn.

I have been feeding 1/3 nuggets and 2/3 corn for about 5 years in spin feeders. The nuggets are gone just as quick as the corn. I free choice corn and nuggets at home and it is the same there

I switched to the 16% (red bag) instead of the blue bag. I mix 1 bag of corn to 3 bags of protein. Deer seemed to prefer the 16% better. From the time they started their new antler growth until they rub out I am going through 200lbs per week in my free choice feeder. From Oct. through march it may take them a month to eat that much.

the golden nuggets are way more expensive then corn. (woodybr54) The way I feed my protein is that during the stages of antler growth i feed the 20% until about september when they are fully grown and then I drop down to the 16% and them when the rut kicks up I switch back to the 20% due to the chasing and fighting they lose alot of weight and then come febuary I feed a 16% breeder ration for the bred doe until about april and then back on to the 20% for antler growth.

I wonder or do you know, Do they eat as much of the 20% as they do the 16%? Just curious if due to the 4% difference does the amount eaten change? You may not be able to gauge this since you feed at different times.

I wonder if mixing in a couple bags of corn in with the protein pellets will attract the deer faster and get them used to the protein does are using the feeder but no bucks yet kind of unusual but I guess that doesn't really mean anything does it come august I normally start seeing bucks on film I'm using straight 20% protein pellet now wondering if I should mix in 100 pounds or so

I mix the gold nuggets in with corn in my feeder and they seem to eat it just as fast as the corn. I'm hoping to get a protein feeder and put corn protein pellets and gold nuggets mixed in there.
Say When.....

My uncle fed golden nuggets in a free choice protein feeder in the hilcountry, it was just like feeding protein to them, took about a week before they started hitting it but then they would eat it empty.
