Do you plan on accessorizing it with lights, laser, foregrips, tacticool stuff? If that's the case, I'd look at a S&W M&P 15-22, the Sig 522, or even the HK416 made by Umarex. They will allow you to use any AR accessory that you'd like to use where the G22 doesn't.
You will also be limited to 10 round magazines where the guns I listed above have 25-30 round mags available. I'd also read that disassembly for cleaning is kind of a PITA on a G22. Some other fellas were talking about "good" shot groups of 3/4 in at 50 yards. I can easily say that my M&P 15-22 will put multiple rounds into the same hole at 50 yards with the right ammo.

I have both G22 and the MP 15-22. Just recently got the MP, but really like it.
I like the G22 greatly, but as mentioned above, there is no such thing as "field stripping". I am getting alot better groups than 3/4 inch groups with it.
The MP is great for accesorizing, but at the end of the day, it is still a .22. But it does have a 25rnd capacity!!
Wife has always wanted some Hard 8
