Has anyone ever seen teal roosting overnight in alfalfa? At LST a few times I have seen hundreds of teal leave a large alfalfa field. There is only one chance to shoot those three shells as they pass by so make them count. They DO NOT circle back.

Yes they are such travelers they will sit (undisturbed)anywhere. They will roost feed feed roost in the same spot restign for the rest of the trip. I would suspect these birds are on the move and using the field like a motel 6.

Alfalfa is really high in protein. Don't know how animals or birds know things such as this but I guess they are fueling up.

That's what I thought, nobody bothers them and they can find something to eat while resting. By the time I realize the teal are flying past me it has almost been too late to take quality shots. I keep thinking in my mind, "These aren't teal are they?" Before you know it, they are GGGOOoonnneeeeee.........

So, all waterfowl TRAVELLING THE CENTRAL FLYWAY know what alfalfa is since that is the only true source of vitamin rich, proteinaceous green stuff left to eat in CANADA right now-
