Pup is likely going to have to have all shots, including bordetella and rabies to be admitted to any kennel. Does pup have all shots complete?

I'd ask the breeder to watch it for you. That would be the safest for your puppy if you can't find a friend.

I'd look into a house sitter. You don't want to use a kennel that allows pups that haven't completed their shots.
If the pup has all its shots then it would be a perfect time to use a trainer instead of place where it is just kenneled. Even if its only socialized, introduced to water and a little puppy obedience. The difference in the price would be worth it.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.
