Well, my father and I as well as my 9yo son are back in the hunt for a lease after being cleaned out by the palo pinto fires. I know we are part of a large group of hunters that will be looking for new digs this year. We are looking for a family oriented place that is laid back. We are good hunters as well as good stewards of the land. I am looking to share my tags with my son this year and we bow and rifle hunt. Let me know if anyone is needing a couple of good guns. Looking for something within 3 hours of dfw.

I wouldn't be so quick to give up on your lease. With just a little bit of rain, things will begin to turn around very fast. You might be surprised at the brush/cover and green forbs on your lease by season's start.

TP&W is reporting very few wild deer have been injured or killed - they are still out there, and will be back on your lease (if not already).

In fact, feeding now will not only help save your deer, but will "lock" them into your areas - as they are probably very hungry.

STAY ON YOUR LEASE, IT WILL GET BETTER AND THE FIRES COULD CLAIM THE NEXT LEASE JUST LIKE YOUR CURRENT LEASE

Not jumping ship due to the burning. Jumping ship because now the 14 hunters on our lease, some being family of the landowner, want to hunt on the only 200 acres that did not burn. Gonna get pretty crowded. The writing on the wall does not look good for next year so am starting to look now.

SOunds like everything the fire didn't wipe out, the family wants to wipe out. Good reason for leaving, I would never hunt on a place that family of the landowner hunts. They will always answer to a different set of rules if any rules at all.

I have 2 spots left in Mills Co. the place is 750 ac. and it is 2000 per gun. there will be a total of 10 hunters on the place but it is layed out so that it is OK. we have some hunters that don't ever show up. we have a no guest rule till the spike doe season. and we have a cabin, water, elec, and room for campers. we feed protein, have 2 food plots. if you want to hear more call me at 817-565-7896 and I can email a copy of the rules.
