I have recently inherited a rather large collection of guns. I don't have room for them, nor do i have the desire to keep all of them. Is there somewhere that i can put them on consignment or that would give me a decent price for them as a lot? I am considering getting a booth at the next gun show, but between the time it would take, and the cost of the booth, i don't know if it would be worth the effort. There are 66 guns that i need to sell, after keeping a few. A lot of them are military - M1's, 30 carbines, SKS's, and a 12 guage trench gun with the bayonet. The handguns are an odd collection, but there are several older Colts. The original plan was to let them go into the estate sale, but after some consideration i have decided that would be a big mistake. Any input would be appreciated.

You would probably make more money on them selling a few at a time on here! Maybe do 5 guns at a time. Depending on your location, I know atleast 1 store here in Bryan College Station that sells on consignment. Plus, I know I'd be interested in some of the guns you mentioned! =)

I agree, you might try selling them on here a few at a time, there seems to be plenty of gun guys on here.
Those of you who do not stand behind our millitary, please stand in front of it!!!

Depends on where you are located. If you are in the DFW area you could probably sell most of them locally on this website. If not I'd find someone who will consignment sell them on www.gunbroker.com

My experience says that guns go unusually high at a well publicized auction.

If I were you I would research all 66 guns and determine their value. You never know, you may stumble on a jackpot. My grandfather has guns in his collection that he thought were "junky" until we started researching their worth.
The worst thing you can do is get rid of them hastily (pawn shop, etc). Unless you want to of course. Or if you desperately need the money. And if that's the case, then shoot me a PM!!

Most gun shops will consign them for you. Thay have the knowledge on the value and they usually take from 15 - 30% as their fee.

I think you will do good putting a few on hear at a time of put up a list of what you have that you want to sell and see what kind of interest I am sure you can move allot of them on the board and a bonus is you can meet fellow THF'ers as most have said I have been wanting a M1 myself

Prepare to get offers from gun show dealers who want to buy your collection entirely at cut-throat rates. It might be a good deal for you.
I personally would do as suggested: Set a minimum price on them, only advertise a marginally higher price while being "open to reasonable offers," and take your time selling.

I can tell you from the standpoint of someone whom works in the industry.
Most Shops will not take that volume in on consignment, only a few at a time. As mentioned most will charge 10-30 %
Your best bet is to get them apraised especaily if widow, children or grandchildren need the money so you can get them fair prices. I think you should try selling via Gunbroker or Here as you will get more for the collection, as mentioned set a either a smokin deal and don't haggle or overprice and negotiate.
DO NOT SELL AS A LOT, you will get raped. If you need some advice or if your close and want some help apraising and some guidence on best ways to sell feel free to PM any questions.
