A few weeks back my fiance, some other friends, and I went to the local shooting range to put some rounds down the tube of my new Kimber. While she was shooting it we found out that even though shes right handed, she is left eye dominant. So what are our choices here? the only ones I could think of are just to practice shooting with her right eye or shoot left handed. Any one have any pointers?

Was she shooting with both eyes open?
I would have her shoot left handed. Chances are that she will be able to adapt to that more easily than if she continues to try to shoot right handed.

I do everything in life right handed, except shoot. Let her shoot left handed, don't try to go against nature.

I'm the same way. If I could do it over, I would have learned to shoot L handed for rifles, shotguns, and pistols. But since I can't (don't want to) change now, I just adapt.
I shoot R handed and keep both eyes open with a pistol. I just naturally bring the pistol across my body a little more than a R hand/R eye dominant shooter.
Shotgun is a little more difficult. with moving targets, you really want to keep both eyes open. I have to squint my dominant L eye. Makes it a little harder to track targets.
bottom line IMO...if she is new to shooting, teach her L handed.

I am the same way, Right handed, left eye dominant I shoot rifles and shotguns left handed, pistol and a bow right handed, like above post said, just cross over a little more with pistol,
Let her shoot how ever she is comfortable with, she will enjoy it more

Thanks guys. Next time we go I'll have her shoot both ways and which ever is motlre comfortable for her is what well go with.

it is tough...but you can adjust. I used to shoot right as a kid/teen but had some eye problems and now have some "blurriness" (scar tissue) on my right eye. Now shoot left, pistol, rifle, skeet, bow, whatever...it took a while to get comfortable but it was either that or dont shoot...
I adapted...

I'm an ambidextrous shooter. I can shoot left or right. I'm right handed but left eyed dominate & sometimes just shoot better on the left.

I have seen quite a few hunters that are right handed but left eye dominant in the last 5 yrs now. For some it is a difficult transition to shoot left handed and others it is not.

Over the years I've noticed this scenario in quite a few women shooters. Bob Brister made reference to it in his shotgunning books.

Luckily for me my father was right handed, left eye dominate. When I was very young he noticed me trying to get my left eye over on the sights of my BB-Gun. He got me to try shooting with my left hand, I have been shooting that way for 36 years. Really good to catch that early, I don't ever remember having a rough transition. I have never owen a left handed gun and can work a right handed bolt action faster than most right handed shooters. I do hate it for bow hunting as I can not walk into a bow shop and find a left handed bow selection worth squat.

Recently found this out about myself. Was easy to swap over and shoot the handguns as I hit where I was aiming for when I switched. Haven't even tried to shoot one of my rifles differently....yet

I am right-handed and right eye dominant, but through practice I have learned to also shoot left handed using my left eye. I think that everyone should pratice shooting on either side. It comes in very handy, and there are sometimes when you just can't turn enough in the stand. I just have to make sure that I have a rest when shooting left handed, and other than that I a fairly confident in my ability.

I am onother that is right handed left eye dominate. With pistols I jsut use my left eye for aiming keeping both eyes open be it shooting right or left handed. for Rifle and shotgun it is a little more of a pain but not unworkable. I read something as a younster that to be prepared for any situation it is best to be ambidextrous so I took that to heart and started shooting my BB gun left handed until I bevame comfortable either left or right. Now I shoot anything just as well right or left handed including shotguns rifles or pistols. Bow I still just squint the left eye just before shooting works for me.
For me he hardest part of shooting left handed is my right hand is so dominate I am a little uncoordinated shooting left handed, once the gun is mounted no problem but just getting it there.
Have her try both and see what she likes best, and a BB gun can be cheap practice for getting comfortable.

Really Shotgun is the only thing I've had issue with. tracking targets takes both eyes. I shoot bow R handed too. I tried to do it L handed a couple of times...dang that's weird.

Depends in how left eye dominant she is, if it's bad, go left handed. I have the exact same issue and I'm having to relearn how to shoot a shotgun all over, it stinks

I write and shoot left handed. Everthing else is right hand. My dad taught me both and he is a true lefty. Sucks cause I am right eye dominant but I have near perfect vision in both so it is not very noticable.

Perfect vision has nothing to do with eye dominance.

Used to shoot rifle and shotgun left handed until I started shooting pistols. It was difficult for me to move across with the pistol, so taught myself to shoot right handed. This change was also helped by starting to shoot ARs. The brass being thrown back in your face isn't much fun.
Left eye dominant, write and eat left-handed, and do everything else right-handed. Yes...I know...weird!
