The crazy swelling is gone, but she is heavily medicated. Last night she took 60mg of prednisone (3 tablets, 20mg each) and 4 benadryl (25mg each). Today she has already taken another 60mg of prednisone and 8 benadryl, and tonight she will take another 60mg of prednisone and 4 more benadryl. Been in close contract with doc and in the morning we will chat and assess path forward.

Although the crazy swelling is gone (lumps on her head, ears ballooning, eyelids swelling, lumps on her face), her face/ears are evenly swollen slightly. Not sure if you guys know or not, but very dangerous for a dog when their faces swells, because their throat swells and they can’t breath.

Doc said her allergic reaction is not unusual, but the severity of the reaction is. Doc brought up an interesting point today, during this hunting season, Molly injured her paw, cut between the pads, doc gave her antibiotic and she had same kind of reaction, first right eyelid swelled, then her whole face/ears swelled all up, just like this. Doc said it must be the antibiotics at the time, and made a note to not give that brand to her again. But now he thinks that was just coincidental, what caused that reaction is causing this one. So once we get by this (I hope we do), we will test and give her that antibiotic, hopefully there will not be a reaction, then we will know 1) it was not the antibiotic and most likely the same as now and 2) if so, then it is not a seasonal thing because she had this reaction in the winter and spring.

This was my first thought, too... sounds localized to that side of the head, yet spreading... like a toxin. Did the vet check for any signs of such? If the cause is environmental, the only way to really rule everything out is to keep her in a sterile, climate controlled place (like the laundry room or a bathroom) in a crate, no bedding. Then feed her boiled chicken and rice. Use even bottled water to eliminate pretty much every environmental source. So sorry to hear you're going thru this. Keep us posted.

Yes, it was my first thought as well when it all started 2 weeks ago with her right eye, she does snap at anything that flies like John says. I thought about a flea bite as well, I have pulled a few off her head. But doc said no bite marks, but I'm still not rulling that one out. Thanks for the ideas..

Is this dog a inside dog. If so is there a swiffer jet mop in the house? I'm crossing my fingers.

This looks exactly like our Blue Heelers eye did. About 9 months later we met our cousin at the farm and his chocolate Lab had the exact same knot above her eye. My wife did some digging and found out about Swiffer Jets soap causing cancer in pet. I asked my cousin if he used a Swiffer Jet in his house and he said yes, why? He was thinking allergy and doing the same thing. Our Heeler went about 2 months after steroid shots then she started bleeding out her nose. She had to look almost straight up to breath. My cousins lab had steroid shot which did some good the first week but had to be put down as well 3 weeks later. Keeping my fingers crossed that theres no Swiffer Jet chemicals around this pretty dog. Love on that dog!

Ours went in the trash as soon as she figured it out. We have stained concrete floor in the kitchen area and the dog were always cleaning up after the boys. We have a curly coated retriever and 2 dang poodles now. I have to much invested in the retriever to lose him.

As far as the Swiffer I did some research. This is what I found and this does not mean a dog couldn't be allergic to it.

How is she doing this morning?

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

She is doing really well, she looks normal, just a little swelling in her ears today. So hoping it all goes away, and we can come off the meds and she still is normal.

Got a cool Doc, free meds today. This whole ordeal has only cost me $60, office visit, phone, meds, everything...

You're kidding, $60...who is your vet? That surprises me being that you're in the city.

Also for food, you can feed her hydrolyzed protein food. If it were a food allergy, this would eliminate it.

Normally you would pay more, but he is just showing a nice gesture by handling a lot of advice over the phone and the free meds, namely the free meds, first time that has happened that I recall and we been clients for 20 yrs.

Molly is doing great today btw, no signs of swelling. up
