I have a old Colt 1911. The serial number is x2006. Can anyone help with some places to look for history on this gun. Need to sell it but wanted to learn about it.

I would have been easier if you'd given the first 3 numbers and xx the last 2.

I imagine you found the same thing I did or you wouldn't be asking. I can't find a record of Colt ever producing a 1911 or 1911a1 with a serial number in this range. Your best bet is to contact Colt.
Here's the number. They'll give you the history of the pistol.

If it was a war-time 1911 an "X" prefix to the serial number indicates a gun that has been re-serial numbered by ordnance, and the maker is neither identifiable or relevant.

Does it say Colt anywhere on the frame or just on the slide and maybe the grips too?
I am no Colt expert but I have seen plenty of people call guns Colts when all they really are is a gun with a Colt slide on it.
