we build our blinds 4x4 and roughly 5 feet tall with a slope from front to back of about 2 inches...when my dad started building these way back he set the specs to where a minimal amount of material had to be bought and the material that was bought was used to the hilt... heres the basics:start with a 4'x4' 2x6 square floor decking..i use 3/4 inch plywood for the floor and roof..one piece will get it done if you are frugal and precise with your cuts...then we used 2x4's ripped into 2x2's for the framing material..frame out your walls the way you like with the 2x2's...screw down your framing walls ..then on the sides we use 4x8 grey masonite siding cut precisely to the shape of the frame/window shapes etc..that way the piece you take out can become your window after you frame them out..same with the door...make sure that you use the 2x2 material to frame your windows and doors so that they dont warp with weather..i put a piece of metal on the roof my present blind and it is really nice...i like to put about a 10-12 inch shooting shelf/arm rest etc in the front part of the blind...then after its all put together come back and caulk it/foam it to help keep critters out.. it amounts to about this 8 2x4 studs ripped to 2x2's 2 2x6 12 ft for the decking 1 4x8 piece of ply wood 3 or 4 pieces of 4x8 masonite siding(depending on whether you want operating windows and doors or not) try a gallon of kilz tinted to OD green for the paint covering...if you take your time and pay attention to details you wont have to build another blind for 20 years..i bought my materials at lowes for less than 100 dollars...i will be down at my lease this weekend and can take a couple pics if you like..

caprocker's plans sound good, I would add one thing to consider. Try using a product called Smart Trim instead of masonite. We paid $17 a sheet and it is the way to go. It actually has a vinyl type coating on the outside that should hold up even better than masonite.
Check my post down the list a little. I think it's called Blinds finally up for some pics.
Good luck

You can also use some stuff called hard board, it is thin, less than a quarter inch, and relatively light. it is the stuff they put behind tile in bathrooms, so wit some paint, it will last a long time.
Those of you who do not stand behind our millitary, please stand in front of it!!!

one thing i forgot to suggest that i did on my last one...i made my door full height but only about 18 inches wide....when i built it i made sure that the door opened inward instead of outward...the reason i did it this way was for windy conditions and in case i have to open the door during a hunt for some reason..like taking a whiz..this way the profile of the blind doesnt change and the door cant be whipped off the hinges by the wind....in case you cant tell , wind is aproblem out here..it blew 40 mph all day yesterday..just a thought

Good idear caprocker on the door opening inward. Wind isn't a huge problem at my place, but I did attach a small chain to the door so that it only opens about 24" just for a back-up.
