Which brands are durable?
How fast will they kill a 6v battery?
Red green or clear lens?
will they spook deer using same feeder?
Are there motion activated models?

Looking at getting a few of these for some summer shootin. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I am not sure what brand we have but there are a lot out there, most are motion activated and you can get them with solar panels if you have sun but you may not in east Texas timber, but led lights won't drain a 6v to bad. We use green lights but I think the animals would get used to clear just fine, just need to find the clear lenses. I think deer would get used to the lights fine, they don't even see the green ones

i have been using the wildgame moonshine light but they just dont seem bright enough for me. i picked up a elusive wildlife feeder light on friday but haven't had a chance to use it. from just playing with it at the house, it seems alot brighter. it has a photocell vs. motion switch. it runs off of C batteries or feeder batteries 6 or 12 volt. i use a 30 mm low light scope which also helps.

the wildgame light is pretty gentle on batteries and i was told the elusive light will last 5 to 7 days on C batteries. i guess you would give up battery time for brightness.

my plans are to use the wildgame to keep the wildlife accustomed to the lights and use the elusive on hunt nights.

you can add a remote switch to the elusive light.

The solar is probably not going to work as I am hunting in thick woods. I looked at the elusive but figured the unit being on all night evry night would be a battery nightmare. Those elusive brand units do seem to be really bright. Thanks for the input!

I recently bought one of the Elusive lights and from 130 yards, I could see about 20 yard or so around the feeder....under the feeder it was very good. I have the green light and I connected it to the feeder battery. The battery is charged via solar panel. I decided to leave it on all the time (the photocell keeps it off during daylight hours).

The last time I went to the ranch, I noticed it was not working...the battery was completely discharged. Not knowing if the light was the problem, I removed it.

My thoughts were:

Bad solar panel?? possibly, so I changed it

Bad battery?? - possibly, but I didn't have a spare but am bringing one with me this weekend to change out if neccessary.

Is it possible the light draws a 6V battery down to NO CHARGE every night, and just wore the battery out?? I'm not sure. I plan on calling them to see if that is a possibility. Maybe I just had a bad battery and it's coincidenece it went out a week after I left the light on every night.

What concerned me is after I changed the solar panel out, I went back to the ranch the next day...the new solar panel had been installed for approximately 12 daylight hours, yet the battery only showed minimal recharge according to the meter on the timer box...this leads me to believe the battery is bad...but did the light excelerate it going bad?? I dunno...

I will update this post once I get a better idea of the issue I have...but I do like the light and would recommend it...especially at $40 or $50

Follow up - I just spoke with Elusive and they do NOT recommend using a standard gel cell type feeder battery (as I did). The light draws about 350 miliamps per hour which will deplete a smal gel cell overnight. So apparantely my problem was operator error. They suggested using a 12V deep cycle battery with a 20 AMP or so solar panel to ensure the charge and recharge is sufficient. That is a bit pricey IMO so I may just install the light and turn it on only when in use...

what size solar panel would you think would be needed to recharge a deep cycle battery enough to last the next night.

Sounds like a little more work than what i have in mind having to purchase and set a 12v and solar charger. Then hope it gets enough sun to operate

Any idea of how long a battery lasts in the motion ones?

pafree have you checked to see if the bulbs can be swapped with something brighter in your wildgame units?

i did look at putting in 3 watt leds but most run off 12 volts and the wildgame is 6 volts and price of leds vs. elusive's light which is proven that it work was the deciding factor. i did change the lens covers to clear which helped and the little hogs are coming under the light but it still scares the big ones.

battery lasts about two weeks in the wildgame light. have you thought about combining a gun mounted kill light and also use a wildgame light? my kill light was too bright and scared the big ones (too close) but now they have one that has three different strengths. i plan on changing out my kill light bulb/led when funds come available.

My setup is going to be around a 275 yd shot from stand to feeder, so i dont think a kill light will be good at that distance. The distance also makes me want to go with the brightest light i can find (without running everything out of the woods). I did find a commercial grade solar motion light that has 80 LEDs in it. It is a package unit with a 15ft cord.Im thinking the cord may allow me to place high enough in a tree to get good light all day. Then i could use the red transparent tape for tailight repairs to make it red. The product got great reviews but is 95.00 and maybe to bright even with the tape. The place is far enough from my house that i cant go down every week to check batteries. I wish the elusive units had a motion option to extend battery life.

you got me thinking. the elusive light has a wire that goes from the light to battery. why not put a motion sensor inline. the built in photocell would only let it go off at night but the motion sensor would only allow power to flow to the light when something walk in front of it. i have a email into a company that sales them to see if their sensor works on 12 volt lights.

Dude,

I can rig up a photo switch from radio shack and mod the Elusive light if you think that is the way to go.

This thread should also point out that the libertards that think the answer to our countrys power needs is solar, are a bunch of morons!

anyrate, I photocell to switch it on and off is easy to build. we could do it.

it comes with a photocell switch but more interested in adding a motion switch.

your solar panel comment made me laugh since i looked at what it would take to mount a wind generator over my feeder.

I just purchased a kill light too. I plan on only putting it out on the feeder when I'm there, not mounting it permanently or to a power source. Testing it out this weekend.

feeder light update. i had changed the lens to clear on my moonshine lights and gave the hogs about a week to get use to them. the game camera showed them coming in again. this evening i went out to the lease. this was the first time the kill feeder light was up and i still had my moonshine on my other feeder. my hunteralert went off and it was at the feeder with the moonshine. the big 300 plus boar i had been getting pictures of was eating under my white lights. through my low light scope, i could see him clearly. he is dead now.

he usually came to the feeder that i had the kill light on first and then goes to the other feeder. did the new light being on all the time scare him?

my next step is to look for a motion sensor for my kill light. it was brighter and covered a wider area. they do sell remote switches for it but is cost as much as the light.

Do you think the moonshine will be effective at 275 yds with the clear lenses? Seems like it would be the easiest to set up and maintain, if the light is bright i may have to go this route. BPS has them for 49.00 right now.

not sure about 275 yards, that is a long way. what kind of scope are you using? your eyes might be better than mine.

i know you said it was in the woods but adding a little solar panel and a GOOD 6 volt battery would help maintain.

i ordered my online. PM sent.

I was at a lease that had the green lenses on the motion activated moonshine light at the feeder. Feeder was about 125-150yrs from the blind and when the light came on I could barely see the outline of what was at the feeder. Had to hit it with the spotlight to really see what was there.

I ordered a kill light and will try it out this weekend for the first time.

Ive tried 2 Eluisive kill lights on my feeder. Not enought light. I made these with 2 flood lights with dusk to dawn, 12v battery and 12v solar panel. 10 times brighter than 2 kill lights. Attached them to a post over a year ago and still working great. I have sold many to friends.
