Me and a few guys are talking about starting a little Saturday skeet shoot in our area to have about once a month. The idea is everyone would chip in a few bucks and the winner would take home some money, and maybe have a second place as well.
Anyone got any ideas on how it could be set up? With rules, cost to shoot, how many clays each person has to shoot, ect? Say we had 20 guys wanting the enter the monthly contest, how would you set it up?

Do you want all 20 guys to shoot the same skeet field, or 2 sheet fields, etc..?

Yeah, 1 skeet field I suppose. I've never shot compitetion or even been to a range to shoot, it's always been just a bunch of us getting together and shooting for the heck of it. So I really have no clue how other people set it up.

does not sound like you are referencing skeet shot on the regulation field (high house/low house, shoot from 8 stations). If you are just getting together with friends in a pasture and have a couple (or more) machines, and are just breaking clays - set up more like a sporting clays course. Hide the machine behind trees or buildings, throw low, high, straight out, straight up, whatever. Make your game based on a box of 25 rounds or multiples of 25 so it is even chances. Of course - you could always just get together at a local range or club and try your hand at regular skeet or trap or five stand or sporting clays...
Only at the end do you realize the power of the Dark Side.

20 guys on a field will take way way way too long. Break it into 6 guys at a time, 5 is best but 6 aint bad. Shoot 100 birds like a real competition then handicap each other based on their average scores. If there is a tie shoot doubles at station 4. That is assuming youre shooting skeet. If youre shooting trap, back up to the 21 yard line and shoot a round. If youre gonna shoot in the backyard or something and you have a few throwers, split the cost of a controller and program it for a duck flush. Ya'll will have a lot of fun with that.

There is one I go to every year. They average 50 shooters. They have two machines one on right and one on left. The one on the right has about 6-8 different spots it throws using the 120mm clay. The left one throws 90mm clays and is faster than the right but is set a one spot. ( Round 1)They start with the one on the right all shooter shoot 10 singles. Then they take the ones who hit 6 or more which is about 75% of the shooters. ( round 2) Next they move the one on right a few more yards away the shoot 5 doubles on report from the right. Then they take who hit a total of 12 to the next round. Round 3 is doubles immediately from the right 18 or move on. Round 4 is 5 doubles one from right then one from the left do that 5 times and round 5 is doubles at the same time one from the right and one from the left. At the last round there are only 3 maybe 4 shooters left who ever have hit the most out of 50 clays wins. First prize is a $500 gun it is $20 to inter it’s a lot of fun and food BYOB.

The only one I shot had 6 or 7 machines set to a timer on a controller. They threw the clays just fast enough to where you would miss at least 4 of 25. If you there was one shooter or two in a team or three in a team there were 25 clays per person.

Wolf Chase is good for home shoots. Shooters line up, first man shoots, if he hits, he goes to the back of the line and next shooter steps up. If he misses, next shooter shoots. If he hits, 1st shooter is out. It just goes down the line, as long as the clay is in the air. $5 ante, one time $5 buy back to get back in if you miss. I smoked Cable's butt this way. Calcreek, where are you located? Just referencing driving distance.

Wolf Chase is my favorite. We play a little different but basically the same game. A Wolf Chase for a grandson's honeymoon raised about $2K
