Hey guys,

I have a lab that I need to get some training pigeons for. Is there anyone in the Fort Worth area that sells them? Or do you know a place that will ship them. Again these are just for training so I dont want to spend $20 a piece for birds. I just need a few common pigeons.

Contact ElhewSargent here on the board. Here is a link to his profile: http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/users/15640/ElhewSargent

I have bought pigeons from him several times and they have always been great birds and fairly priced. He is in Carrollton so not sure if that is a deal breaker or not.

Huck,
I have a pen full of commons I need to send down the road. I think there is about 50-60 in there. Have been getting $3.00 to $3.25 each for them. Pick a few at $3 or buy a bunch and I'll beat that price a little too.
I'm at Abilene. They are plenty wild enough and will fly hard for you.
Jimbo

I can sure ship them Y'all but postage would be about 50 dang bucks for a box with about a dozen birds in it. They deliver them to your doorstep in two days. You also have to use approved biohazard mailing boxes through the post office. Those are about 15 bucks each. I'd only charge actual postage and box cost. I don't mind doing it for you but it sure ups your total cost. Let me know if you want to do it that way though. If you know someone driving back through Abilene on a week day I could meet them somewhere on the highway and send them with them... I'll help all I can.
Truly, Jimbo

Jimbo, I may be interested in picking a few up from ya. Do you have a number I can reach you at? I will be in Abilene and the surrounding area all next week.

Thank you all so much for the positive recommendations!! Let me know when you need some birds. I normally always have some and in the process of placing out more traps since someone stole 2 of mine a few weeks back.

I don't want to take anything away from Elhew, he's a great guy. He's trapping feral pigeons and they work great. I have racing homing pigeons and have about 12-15 nests going right now. If anyone wants to establish a loft with homers to use for training, let me know. I have too many birds and will be over run pretty soon.

Just sold out all I have available at the moment (about 80). Will keep trapping though.
Many thanks,
Jimbo

PS: Elhew and DoubleB20, both friends of mine and I recommend either of them very highly!!

Hey I have a trap but the problem is where to trap them. They dont come around my back yard and I think Wall-Mart Security would frown upon me setting up traps in the parking lot!! Thats my problem, they just seem to be in the wost possible places to try to trap.

Huck brings up a good point. I've got a trap too, but have not found a good place to try and use it. So it is usually easier for me to buy them. For those that DO trap them - any hints as to the best places to set out traps ?

Find you a grain elevator or big feed company. They usually have a ton of birds hanging around. Sometimes hard to catch them when there is grain like wheat or milo being harvested cause they spill so much on the ground. BUT, when the grain isn't being brought in the pickings get slimmer and they are ready for some trap feed, hehe.
Some buildings downtown get a bunch of birds built up and they will let folks come trap as long as the traps are being checked real regular and feed water and shade is available to trapped birds all the time. You have to pay good attention to that cause it's real easy to get asked to quit if you aren't taking care of the detainees.
Cattle feedlots usually welcome someone wanting to help thin down the population too.....
Just a couple options to look for.
Jimbo

I put my traps at feed stores and On the roofs of any store that will let me trap them I just go to the mom&pop shop and ask them and some times I will post an add on chregs list in the farm and garden. Naw I get call backs all the time and Charge then 25$$ a trap. just saying

Thanks

Jeff 972-571-4028. He usually has Pigeons unless he has sold them all for a big shoot. He's East of Dallas.
