STILL EARLY IN THE SEASON TO GIVE UP. KEEP WITH IT AND YOU SHOULD HAVE SOME LUCK. IF YOU'VE SEEN DEER BEFORE YOU SHOULD SEE SOME THIS SEASON..STICK WITH IT.

I agree with KIKE, and my weekend went about the same as yours (not much happening). The full moon and 90 degree heat will keep them nocturnal. It will get better as it cools off. If you have thoughts of giving up after one hunt, then maybe this sport isn't for you at all!

Here's a tip that always helped me: Never go hunting to do anything but enjoy the hunt - no matter what.

I agree. And if you have a lot of pigs around, you probably have deer around too but they are smarter than to run by a hunter. Couple people I talked to saw maybe a doe at most. Too hot. My buddy has been to his Dimmit county lease early and seen nothing, zero but come December you will see 20+ deer every hunt. You can't give up!
If you don't get excited before you go out regardless of what you think your prospects are, then it isn't a sport for you. I was on a so-so lease where I was lucky to see a deer but I got the same feeling everytime I went. The issue about not seening anything is easily fixed by changing leases or just go to friends places next season.

All I saw was squirrels and a coon. I guarantee you, even if that is all I see all season, I will still be back next season. This year I am hunting a better place, but where I have been the last 5 or 6 years, I knew each time going out there was a 90% chance I wouldn’t see anything. But I was still excited to get out there and get away from town. Plus there was still a 10% chance a deer would come by, and 100% chance I would enjoy myself.

Stay patient. I shot this one the Friday after Thanksgiving 2 years ago. There are some good deer in that county. It just takes a while to find them. Good luck. -john

I was in freestone county (1mile east of Teague) opening day hunting. I saw 9 doe's, 1 spike, and 7 pigs, two weeks after the drilling company built a padsite, and a freakin 2 lane hwy all the way thru our property. But we had planted some food plots earlier this year, and they are starting to come up. So that might have had something to do with it. If that was a bad day, I can't wait until a good one comes.
But yeah, stick with it, they are there, and will have to reveal themselves at some point.
