I have a RCBS 9mm 3 die set. It is an older non-carbide set. I am trying to determine if the seater die will also crimp. The top of the die has "9mm Luger seat #3 80". I am not familiar with the non-carbide pistol dies so any help is appreciated.

I would think if you screwed your seater die down on an empty case a little at a time, you'd be able to tell if the case mouth is crimping or not.
I don't know you, but I have met you a thousand times.

Ill try that. I just started reloading pistol. I reload .223 and use a separate crimp die. The Lee crimp die looks totally different from the RCBS rifle seating die. Since I plan to load more 9mm than rifle I like the idea of eliminating the extra crimping die.

I believe the 80# on your die represents the year made on RCBS dies. Never owned a 9mm , but my .357 Carbide dies are a 3 -die set also. Carbide for straight wall cases are the way to go, No lubing involved in your sizing your cases.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered a set of Carbide dies to speed things up. This set is going to the classifieds if anyone is interested. They work fine if you dont mind the lubing. I used them to load small batches of hollow points so it didnt bother me, but I am about to order bulk FMJ to load for plinking so I am looking to save time.

Yes they will crimp but why would you want to? 80 is the year of die was manufactured. Carbide is King!!
