I have no clue, but it seems like anything with deep penetration should work. The freaking kill zone has to be 2'x2' I would think. Plus you should be fairly close

I do like the round capacity of the Marlin over the Winchester. Ten rounds in the Marlin. Vs four in the Winchester. Even though the one shot kill is the idea.

I boutght a 350 Remington Mag for the Moose hunt if I ever take it. If you take the 44 I would use 250gr Partitions or heavy lead case bullets and stay within 100 yards, Very important from what I have been told by moose hunters and guides make that first shot coune, double lung one and like deer, elk or anything else dead pretty quick, bad shot on a moose and they can go a long time and carry a lot of lead after the adreline gets flowing

Use the hunt as an excuse to add a new firearm or two to the arsenal. .300 WSM or .338 would be my choice. And a .44 Mag for bear protection in close quarters.

I would say anything above a .22 LR. Have a buddy that kills hogs all the time with a .17 HMR. Kinda like a cow, they just stand there and you shoot em. Been around them a lot and they are just not very gamey.

I have killed a moose, and I was using a .340 Weatherby Mag.
Take the '06 and premium ammo with 180 grain bullets and work with it till you can place your shots correctly every time.
Not all Moose are shot at close range, and if this will e the hunt of a lifetime don't go under gunned, and don't riun out and buy a magnum, it ain't needed.
As some one else said, a 270 will work on moose just fine, as will a 308 or 30-06.
Take the '06 and use it out of reaspect or Memory of your Grand Dad, you wonm't regret it.

Could be far ect. If this is a hunt that will take me years to make happen, why mess around with it. The 06 can do the job close or far. And the sentimental value is there. Saves money having to not buy a gun also. But I think I will ivest in a new scope. Here is a pic of the Model 70 30-06 with a hog I took a few years back.

A 30-06 with a good premium bullet that your rifle shoots accurately will do just fine.

The .44 magnum is not nearly enough gun. Period. Yes it can kill a moose but so can a .22 rimfire. If a big moose steps out in a meadow across a canyon 350 yards away do you really want to be holding a .44 magnum? Why handicap yourself on the hunt of a lifetime? Take the .30-06.
Yes I have hunted and taken moose.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I lived in Alaska and took two Moose while I was there. Both were mature cows. One was taken with a 7mm Rem Mag and the other was taken with a .338.
The first one was taken with the 7mm was about 135-150yds across a slough and while it was a good shot, ran 45-50 yards into the bush.
Second moose was shot with the .338 at about 40yds and ran/rolled about 25yds down a hill.
Both were one shot kills. Didn't see alot of differences between the two rounds and the effects they had on dropping either of the moose.
The biggest part to remember is the fun is over when the moose hits the ground. The extra 40-50 yards the first moose ran and the 25yds down a hill on the second were back breaking at best.
The 30-06 would be my choice based on the nostalgia value or given what you will pay for a quality moose hunt currently, you might as well get a new gun to go with it..in a .338
