This weekend I built a feeder pen to put my new lamco time through feeder in that I will be purchasing next trip. My question. The panels I put up are 52 inches high. Is that too high? We have white tail, axis, and sika on our lease. Just want to make sure they can clear the fence. Thanks

Not the best pic in the world, but from what I can see it looks good. 52" is not too high, but if you are worried about it, you can take a pair of bolt cutters and cut down 2 squares by about 6 squares across and that will lower certain areas and the deer will enter and leave the pen by those places if they aren't scared. Cutting those squares out in 2 or 3 places should be more than enough. I wouldn't recommend more than 2 or 3 places.

IMO 52" is too high. We have tried 34" hog panels, 40" cattle and 52" fences. By far the best results have been with the 34" panels. The lesson we learned was to keep cows out the pen needed to be big enough so that the feeder did not throw any corn outside the fence. Deer don't like the feeling of being penned in and the 34" panels allow them to see over the top of the fencing. Based on your picture you certainly have a big enough pen. As the last poster said, just cut it lower in a few places and you will be good to go.

I second this. Since you've already done the work of getting that fence up, leave it high in a few places and cut down a FEW panels that would give you the best chance to see/harvest animals. I've got a pen at my place that sides to a wooded/brushy area. Deer would come in on the side of the woods/brush and not give me much of a chance to see them before they were in the pen. Additionally, the side they came in on was on the opposite side of my bow stand. I raised the fence on that side and cut down two areas on the opposite, open side about a foot. Now, the deer come out and walk around to the low sides, giving me a better opportunity to see them in the open and to have an unobstructed shot.

If you don't have hogs. I would also make some places on the bottom for the fawns, especially if your feeding protein which it sounds like you are with the Lamco.

Thats what we have always done as well is just cut the side down shorter thats on the side facing your stand and they tend to use it.

Deer will learn quickly to jump at those spots.
