Well, I got this new squirrel in distress call a couple weeks ago, the first day I got it I went to try it out in the woods near by. I was hoping to get a few squirrels to come in since that what the call was made for but instead I called in a coyote within 5 minutes, got the kill and since then I've called in about 3 or 4 more but I keep getting busted.. My brother in law smokes in the garage and I left my stuff there for a few days and I think the coyotes catch on the the cigarette smell. Is there a way to remove all odors from my clothes completely? Or mask it somehow with other househeld items. I don't have the money to spend on the scentkiller stuff, no matter how cheap it is.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

i've smoked a cigarette right before doing a stand and making a kill on a yote. guess it depends on how your set up and where they come from... the wind is throwing your scent out there either way...

Take into hand all the coyotes that come in get within 20 yards because of the way my backyard is. All I do is sit under a tree and call.. I guess it could be that they just see me?

Is there a way to remove all odors from my clothes completely? Nope. Even if there was, you are sloughing off skin cells 24 hrs a day every day and a coyotes nose is sensitive enough to pick up on that alone. The wind is your friend. Chupa

I'm not going to shoot if there is AT LEAST 10 huge trees between me and the animal. I'm not hunting in a open field like yourself, I'm hunting in a thick wooded area where you're lucky to have a 5 yard area of clear space for yourself to sit down in.

The direction from which they normally come is surrounded by trees and I can't get a good shot off, but I have a small area where I can pull the trigger. But by the time they get there, I'm busted.

if your getting them to 20 yards or close to it your doing darn good..... sounds like you need to do some tree clearing for a decent shot... but all your doing is educating those yotes if you call them in and don't shoot them and they are busting you.

It's not really MY backyard, but my hunting area is right next to it, there are open lots from the neighbors across the street that own them and they said if I can get those yotes off their property across the street and on the one next to mine and leave the woods the way I found them I could hunt.
Two quick questions:
Is there a season on foxes? I saw one snooping around the other day and was just curious.
Does that scent killer stuff actually work? If you can't really eliminate your odor why do people get it, not sure if they really do, but the outdoor channel sure advertises it a lot.

foxes are open season... shoot it at anytime ... they will come to call quicker than yote half the time.
not sure on the scent killer stuff, never use it..

Scent killer would help but its not going to "kill" all of your scent. They will smell you. Play the wind and be ready to shoot. They almost always come from downwind so I would clear some shooting lanes or maybe even use a shotgun.

Wash your clothes in baking soda. It will help neutralize any foreign scent you have on them. Also, if possible, hunt with the wind in your face, or blowing across your face. Even getting your clothes clean is not going to help if the wind is too your back and blowing everything straight towards the coyotes. Best of luck.

Sounds like you're in a semi-residential area, or at least more than one house in the area. What you're experiencing are the yotes reacting to any human intrusion, which will make them skittish anyway! Follow the advice about washing your clothes but let them dry outside....not in a dryer!
If the yotes continue to come from the same general direction when you are calling, and are busting you, that means that they are probably seeing you right away. Conseqeuntly, you need to conceal yourself, somehow. One of the easiest blinds to make is simply taking a large cardboard box, or several boxes, cut and unfold them lengthwise. Lay them on the ground, walk over them stomping them hard into the ground, rub the boxes in the dirt. Then take some long sticks or branches and set the boxes up near a tree or telephone pole close to the area you are seeing the coyotes. Let the blind sit for a couple of days before you try to hunt out of it, that helps the coyotes get use to its presence.
If you own a dog, gather up some dog turds, put them in a plastic ziplock baggie with a little water. Let it set a few hours before you go hunt. When you get to the blind, dump some of the dog turds on the ground and upwind from you location and about 40 feet from your spot and the remainder about 30 feet downwind! If you don't own a dog, you can use items like Jello, old coffe grounds, even left-overs!
When you get set up and start calling, keep you gun as ready as possible in order to reduce your movement when you see the yotes. Look for the slightest bit of movement in the direction they are coming from. Keep ALL your movement to a minimum and try to let the "bait" work for you!
You can also make a small decoy which will help distract them when they come in. Tear several strips of cloth from old rags, tie them into a bundle, and tie the bundle on a stick about 2 feet long, letting the bundle dangle from the stick. The wind will cause the bundle to move, or if you have some fishing line, you can tie some of the line to the stick and back to your blind. Pull the string every now and then to cause the bundle to move, if there is no wind blowing.
Try some of these tips and see if that doesn't help you out some!

you may be calling too much? call some and look or as someone mentioned hide yourself better. or sit up somewhere different to make them come out of the brush to you.

The wind is your friend, but so is elevation. Any way you can get a ladder stand in there or even just a 2x4 nailed in the fork of a tree? I think that'd be your best bet.
