Is this a good rifle to purchase? To those that own a Stevens 200, have you all had any issues with this rifle? I'm asking because I'm thinking about buying one.

Sami bought one, put a huge barrel on it and a Savage bolt. So far it shoots well.

Yep it's worthless, he's ordered a new stock for it already.
He bought it for the action.

my Stevens 200 7mm-08 is dog ugly, but it shoots dime groups at 100 yards with my Nikon 3x9x50. cant find a replacement stock so I will probably paint it, not matter, I got a safe full of nice quality rifles, but somehow that Stevens comes out of the safe first very often. love that rifle. I take hogs and coyotes at 300 plus yards almost daily when I check my cows. I shoot Hornady light magnum 139 grain ammo out of it. helluva combo.

I am not concern about the beauty of the rifle. I just don't want to waste my money on a rifle that is not accurate. Academy is selling this rifle for $179 in the .270 caliber.

I have 2 and both shoot great but i put custom triggers on both and made them much better. I love good looking guns but dont hunt with em so my advice is get one and replace the trigger maybe even paint the stock but its one of the best [cheap guns] you can buy.

It's a savage action right? I've seen them, they are butt ugly rifles. You could change the stock and barrel, and still be under th cost of most guns new.

almost every firearm maker has crap plastic stocks, at least these are pillar bedded and barrel floated. the barrels can be changed out, to a custom one, and you can do the work yourself - if you ever wanted to go that route. excellent buy for that price. i picked up a 7-08 for my son. i cut the stock down, put on a sims pad, added a little weight to the stock and put on talley extended bases (highly recommend the ext talleys for the short action)
the trigger can be polished up to break nice and crisp. mine is as good as the timney in my vanguard now that its all polished up. yes one day the stock will get changed out.

Nope...not the Stevens 200 that are sold at Academy. I bought my Stevens .223 at Academy. It was X-mas 2009 but I definetly bought it at Academy. They may no longer carry it. Go ask a sales associate and have him look up and see if any other stores have one. Back to the gun, I love my .223 and it shoots under an inch.
