I really like this new show on the Travel Channel. Going to have the host Steven Rinella on next week's show. Just thought I would open up the floor to you guys. If you haven't seen The Wild Within, I highly recommend you set your DVR's. It's not like most of the other hunting shows out there. Here is the link to the website: http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/The_Wild_WithinI think Steven lives by a code that us as outdoorsmen should also be following. Some of us prolly already do, but its def a refreshing spin on the outdoor lifestyle. Let me hear from ya.

I like it too. It's probably the only hunting show I watch anymore (if you can call it a hunting show). Ask him if he has any plans to come to Texas and do any hunting here (maybe some Public land where you have to hunt or stalk, etc) I'd love to see how he approaches it and if he's willing. Obviously, he's not going to hunt over a feeder in a box or anything like that, but it be cool to see him come down and hunt some of the Public land we have here.

Absolutely loved the Hawaii show. The San Fran one was just odd. The moose one was also pretty good.
It is a show that has hunting that my wife wants to actually watch and I enjoy so much more then the rest. He can get a bit preachy, but it is still a good show. Makes me look forward to at least one aspect of Sunday nights

He has a Texas show set to air end of March. I will def ask him as much as I can without him giving away the whole show.

I really like the show. Last week when he told those San Francisco folks that he just fed them roadkill raccoon, I laughed my keester off.

I WAS a fan however after the last two episodes (SF and the moose) I'm not so sure. Appears to me that quite a bit of the last two shows were staged. I had a hard time with him portraying himself as just showing up at this Canadian outfitter's house and then being told that in order for the guy to think Steve "worthy" of going moose hunting he had to trap some beaver first. Then he gets past the beaver and starts after the moose and takes a shot that I wouldn't think any responsible hunter would take, if the camera angle was reflective of his actual sight picture. I think he even confessed that he couldn't even see the moose's body but after kind of jumping around and moving a bit he takes what I consider a wild shot through the willows and of course kills him. I really don't think we need the folks that may be on the fence about hunting seeing a guy make a wild shot like that and get away with it. Then he canoes back down the river and the outfitter just "happens" to be setting a beaver trap on the shore when he floats up.....come on!! That episode ended with him cooking a crown roast from the moose but it clearly wasn't the moose he shot (IMO it wasn't even Moose....too red and too much fat plus the butcher paper, but I may be wrong) unless his moose magically had metal rings attaching the ribs to the roast (if you look just before he puts it on the grill it has metal rings all around the base of it. Now it's possible that between camera takes he whipped out his plyers and went to work on it but the roast it showed was just like what my wife gets straight from the butcher...all ready to go on the grill, butcher paper and all;-).
Then he goes to SF and has a camp fire in Golden Gate park???Really???? Then a couple of French chicks show up when he's grilling the snails??? Too contrived for me.
All of the situations he has been in would have worked much better if he'd just gone with the flow of what was really happening instead of trying to make you think he "has to earn his right to go hunting".
This guy obviously has skills and talent and IMO it's a GREAT concept for a show...one that makes people think about where their food comes from and advocates for hunting. I'm hoping his show will mature and he won't keep trying to make it more dramatized than it really is, so I'll give him a few more chances but the last two sucked!
Regards, Scott

I understand what you are saying. But as far as the Moose crown whatever it was I recall he wiring that thing together. Maybe I missed something but I was pretty sure he did do that and I bet they had butcher paper at the house. As far as the wild arse shot...I hope it was a bad camera angle but I will be sure to ask him.

Sounds good.
I'm bookmarking the topic so I can remember to search for the show and set my DVR so I can remember to watch the show after it records next time.

I like the show overall and think it puts a positive light on hunting to outsiders viewing it, but I do believe alot of it is staged. The Montana episode where he follows a random hawk to a dead antelope that happens to be left there by another hunter was a little rediculous. Ask him if he aims to show nun hunters what hunting is truly about because I feel like for the most part they do a good job of it.

Regarding the Hawaii episode (my favorite episode), ask him what he was going through his mind when he was in the creek with the hog? He had the knife in hand, but had the what the heck am I doing this for look on his face.

I'll definitely have to check this one out. I enjoy his show and I like the fact that I don't have to listen to 20 minutes of ridiculous product-placement anouncements everytime he farts or takes a step. I think this gives a much more positive spin on hunting and the primordial senses that are inside of everyone (even if some people don't know it).

Great Interview Cable. I just listened to the podcast. He sounds super casual and like a regular guy. Not letting his TV fame go to his head.
