Hello all. I am new here and looking forward to getting to know you all. I am located in Arlington, Tx. I am looking for a field bred American Cocker Spaniel (I know, those words almost don't fit together anymore). I didn't know if any of you might have any leads on a field bred, or promising American Cocker in or around Texas? I prefer black but am pretty much open to any color i can find.

Thanks, Matt

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately work interferes with the field trials. Stinkbelly, does the guy breed them?

I may end up having to go with english cockers, i'm hoping to stick with american cockers though.

I think he is talking about my dogs since I am pretty sure he hasn't seen another ECS. I am not breeding Cockers at this time, but I can definitely point you in the right direction and possibly answer questions about them.

I've also looked there as well. From what i understand they only breed english cockers, but train americans. Unless i'm wrong. Maybe i can get in contact with the owner, maybe he knows someone he could hook me up with.

Thanks for the suggestions again guys. I'm going to hold out for an american for a little while longer, if that falls through, i'll get in contact with you guys about english cockers.

If you're just looking for a pet that will occasionally hunt, you might be able to get by with an American Cocker. However, if you're serious about your hunting, I honestly don't know why you'd be looking for an ACS. My understanding is that the ones that are entered in HTs really struggle and can't hold a candle to the ECS. You might be able to find one that has some "field tendencies", but you're creating a bigger job for yourself going that route. IMO

I'm hoping to find someone who is breeding them for what they used to be. They once were a great all around hunting dog. If all else fails i'll go with an ecs. I am, however hoping to find someone who is breeding true acs hunting dogs.
