So I have been hunting Sonora, TX area for the last 3 years for deer. I love the numbers of deer in the area but hate the drive and lack of antler size. I was thinking of heading to Childress area or Montague County area. Anyone hunt these areas? Know any good sites to find a lease there or any good leases, or people to contact to find one? Thank you!

I think I would try Childress. I have land in Montague County, just South of Bowie, and saw virtually no deer this year. The acorns killed me. Childress is more mesquite and I heard a lot of good reports from there.

There are no deer in the Childress area. peep JK but good leases in the area are hard to come by it seems. Way too many are trying to put the same number of hunters on a piece of property there as you would in the hill country and the deer population and area just won't sustain the pressure. I'm looking in that area too and have hunted there before but trying to find a place that is affordable without putting way too many hunters on it is not an easy task.

Same with Montague. Unless you get on an existing lease as a new member, doubt you'll find much out here. I hunt there now and the past 6 years and never seen an affordable lease of a nice size posted publically. If you get on one, you have to hunt and enjoy it for what it is. Not everyone is going to take a buck and sometimes sightings are slim.
