So this year was my first year to actually duck hunt. Like most, I was addicted after the first duck did a cannon ball. Anyways, I have a lease in Hamilton County where I killed about a dozen ducks or so this past year just jumping tanks. I always seem to see ducks on three of four tanks everytime I drive by them. From 2-30 it just varries. I hunted three different mornings out there and always had that first morning group fly over, I would shoot one or two then they would fly off. Nothing ever flew back in after waiting till 11 or so. Anyways what I'm getting at is what kind of forage can I throw around my tank to keep my ducks around or keep coming day after day.

Send a PM to Cappy. I think he does his tanks pretty good and can give you solid advice.

How deep is your tank?
Are you on a flyway?
Are you even near a larg body of water that roost ducks?
Location location location!!
I dont think Hamilton is a very rich in ducks anyway.

The tanks are about 8-9ft maybe when it is its fullest. The majority of the tanks are wader deep. There is a small lake about 4-5 miles from the property that I think is where they come from. Hamilton is not known for duck hunting, mainly dove hunting but I've hunted the area for about 19 years and we have always had a few ducks on the tanks just never a ton.

Your tank sounds to deep. Puddlers can only feed down about a foot. Plant some American pond weed or sago pond weed, it will grow to the surface. You can throw all the feed in the off season you want into that tank, but sounds like all you will be feeding is divers.

I've killed a variety of ducks out there. Mallard, gadwall, wigeon, ringneck, and teal. What do you think about japanese millet? The majority of the tank is about 3 foot with a couple drop offs.

Jeff is just being honest with you.

If you want to plant food for ducks, you have to plant them in a basin that seasonally floods or be able to draw it down then fill it back up.

I know Jeff is. I was just giving him a hard time. It only costs about $30 for seed. That should do a couple of my tanks around the edges. We will see.

If its not that big of a pond and its not close to any place that holds birds, then you probably won't have enough birds to even hunt!
