So far we have managed to get close to a limit each time we have been out hunting. This year the birds have been very healthy. I think after this cold snap this weekend should be great.

Daycare complains about nearby dove hunting

04:32 PM CDT on Tuesday, September 11, 2007
By JEFF BRADY / WFAA-TV

It's a daycare where kids play everyday near a vacant field - located in an area suddenly popular with dove hunters.

Since dove season started 1 September, the daycare owners say it's much too close for comfort.

"We're really never had this situation before, where we had random hunting going on behind and adjacent to the building," said daycare owner, Nelson Hewitt.

A quick check by Frisco police showed the evidence - spent shotgun casings and an empty box.

The thing is, it's probably legal.

"There's not a whole lot we can do," said Sgt. Gerald Meadors from Frisco PD.

State lawmakers recently changed state law - specifying that undeveloped land - even that within city limits - can be used for hunting.

It is legal for dove hunters to use tracts of land as small as 10 acres for dove hunting. The problem is when their projectiles leave that 10 acre tract and hit a home.

"They found about nine pellets in their back yard, and then their home was also hit by the shotguns," said Nina Sauceda, a parent.

Sauceda lives adjacent to the field.

She says her neighbors' home has been pelted and she hears the gunfire almost daily.

She keeps her two kids inside and is baffled that state law would allow it.

"These people have guns. There's too much risk involved," Sauceda said.

Frisco police and game wardens hear the complaints often but admit the ones in error are usually the home or business-owners.

"They are surprised, a lot of them are not hunters and most of the ones that are hunters, they understand what you can and cannot do," said game warden Leroy Thompson.

I wonder how long they crawled around on their hands and knees looking for those pellets? that like finding a needle in a haystack, if they can do that they need to go buy a lottery ticket

Attention rickym, this is not a troll post, just a good hearted fun type of post

Something can be done about it since bullets cannot legally cross property lines.

How many of you have ever been pelted with shot, from a nearby hunter ? Did it really hurt you ? So if it were to pepper the other side of the fence, what kind of damage could it really do ? I Think that it is really a bunch of cry babbies just stirring up poop, because they have nothing else to do. Now i not talking about the yahoo's that hunt with thier back against the grouchy neighbors property line, Of course they could do damage. I'm talking about the ones that don't hunt the fence line of properties. Every hunter should know if they are endangering someone, or someone's property, and hunt safely.

An eye can VERY easily be damaged. I am an idiot and still hunt without safety glasses. If I had a kid at that daycare, you can bet your #$@ I would be doing something about it. Dumb hunters are dangerous hunters.

Real question is who'll be held responsible if one of those little eyes gets shot out?

They may be hunting legally, but bullets CANNOT cross property lines...it really is that simple and I believe the GW in this story does not fully understand how to enforce the hunting laws. I don't know what else to tell ya but the law is in the books.
