Green, brighter then red, my personal opinion.

Ive been using red but I think I'm going to start experimenting with a regular white light. Ive read a lot of articles lately about this and there are lots of guys running white lights especially the guys who film their hunts. It would be nice to be able to ID an animal further out than you can with a red filter.

I've used white light a lot more than red, never tried green. White light is good, just don't shine it directly on the animal.

RED. It might also depend on the light you use also. we use these 2 big heavy duty red flood lights on our feeders for hogs, an they are pretty bright we can see 50 yards or so real clear without a scope. an our cameras see the animals just fine.

I use a red light because that is what I could afford. My buddy just bought a $300 green light that is pretty intense. It definetly outshines mine but also cost 5 times as much. But from what I saw the green is very good.

I like my Lightforce with red filter. Something about seeing those red eyes, they glow better and the animal isn't disturbed with a direct beam on them.

White as long as it't not too bright.

I build LED lights and I use either green or green/red together.
The combination make a amber color that is bright and doesnt wash out like red or green by them selves. Animal seem to react to it like they do with straight green. I shoot mostly hogs but sometimes a yote,fox or bobcat will screw up. I know that hogs dont even know they are in the light unless it is moving around.
The red green combination realy hits on varmit eyes. I can pick out there eyes way past the visable light that I can see. As far a distance shooting you cant beat white. Most of my shooting is done around 100 yards so the colors work great for me.

guys i think hes asking predator hunters but,we use lightforce lights with red filters with the halo sheilds and it works prefect

If we our filming white light hands down! But the intensity has to be adjusted to the situation your hunting in. If we our just going out to have fun the red light works great. But I can promise you this just watch our teaser clip on hear if you don't think that the white light given the proper methods can work great and the shooter is able to identify the target better and their kill ratio goes up at least 30% using the white light. Trust me this has been beat to death on red, green, blue, white, yellow lens color and if your filming with a red light your footage is going to suffer no matter what. Plus the white light shows all the predators color so well like for instance a red fox or a big spotted cat you can see them way better under a white light. Then again that's just my 2 cents take it for what it's worth. Hope this helps Skinner

I just picked up a spotlight at academy made for night predator hunting. It can with white, red and yellow lense.

Will report back on how it did this weekend.

I've used red had good success. Got a Maurauder with swapping lenses and I wanna try out the green just to see how it works out.

If you are just getting into night hunting, then I would go with just about any spotlight with a red filter. White lights will work but they are much less user friendly than a filtered light. Every situation and animal is different in that some animals will will take more light than you can physically put on them yet others wont take any at all, it all depends on each individual animal. Find a light that you can make a good id with be it red, green, or white and can still get them in close for those better shots. The one thing thats for sure is theres only one good way for ya to find out which one works the best for you! Good luck

We have hunted together for a long time and have been through the light questions together and there is nothing more can be said than personal preference. the amount of light that we figured out could be put on a charging animal and still have it at less than 10 yards from the tailgate is absolutely unreal!!! but to this day we still say that if we were just hunting for fun we would probably still be using the red filters.

Red because if it aint broke dont fix it . Always used Red . ive experimented but always come back to red .
Personal preference is excactly right some guys eyes are different than others . Some can see some cant . LOL

I like white but in brushy country I go red because an animal can come in close without being seen and then when you hit him close up with a white light they tend to bolt. In more open ground critters can be spotted at a greater distance and then the light can be run according to how the animal reacts, some cats dont care if the light is in their eyes or not alot of coyotes will shy away if hit directly. Just my experiences.

honestly we ran quite a bit of extension cords lol an just plugged them in to a outside outlet. we dont have to worry about the battery dying or going weak

Has anybody ever tried coloring lenses red with sharpie markers? Or have any other ways to turn spotlights red?

I use a 12 volt spotlight with a red lens. I got it at Gander Mountan for about 30 dollars and it is 3 million candle power. I have made my own portable power for it using a rechargeable battery. Since it connects to the cigarette lighter port in the truck I had to make a connection adapter to connect it to the battery. I did not want to modify the light itself so I purchased an extension power supply from Wal-Mart and cut the cigarette plug end off and but on female butt connectors on it to allow it to connet direct to the battery. I can put this in my duffle bag that I carry all mu stuff in and head out to the field very easily.
I prefer the red lens on this cause it does not seem to scare the predators or the hogs but we can also use it in truck for spotting in fields while in the truck too which makes it nice when we take the kids out and drive around to look for animals from spring to fall during the evening hours. My kids love it when we dive around and see any kind of animal - from a squirrel to yotes.

I have heard that hogs cannot see the red light persay but do notice the difference in brightness, like they are red blind and only see B - G and not in R-B-G like humans do. Not sure the validity of this information (http://en.allexperts.com/q/Wildlife-2507/2008/1/mammal-visual-spectrum.htm) but a google search has proven that this information may be correct.

maybe some red tape for tail lights would work better then a marker
