Flying "P" Outdoors just outside Hico, TX. Been going there for 10 years now. We have always used our own dogs and recently my Dad was doing some guiding there. Great people and set up for a day hunt!!

Brokeback quail hunting??? Check around the panhandle and specifically the sandhills. There are lots of farmers and ranchers who will accept day leases. You can also call http://saltforkoutfitters.com or http://www.highflyingoutfitters.com. Salt Fork has day leases available. If you call High Flying Outfitters, ask for Bruce Town. He can make recommendations if they are not offering day leases. Tell Bruce that JP said to call.

I'll second Saltforkranch ask for Shawn McDonald 214-475-5032 or email shawn@saltforkranch.com tell Shawn I sent you. When I talked to him before dove season he said the birds are going to be great this year. If he's booked call Arlen Kruger 210-422-3704. Good Luck! John

I don't know about that brokeback stuff but if you are looking for self-guided wild bird hunts (not pen-raised, liberated, put & take, or whatever you want to call that type of thing) I have places to offer quail hunters to hunt with their own dogs ON WILD BIRDS ONLY. Be sure to ask if other places are pen rasied bird hunts, as many are. You can pretty much tell by the location/region of the state if they are wild birds or not. The only thing I have before deer season ends (as of right now, but this could change) is in Kansas, starting at $250 a day per gun with a 2 day minimum booking, but it's a huge ranch with lots of pheasant and a darn good quail population this year as well. After deer season ends I have a few places in Texas and Oklahoma starting at $200 per day per gun. Guided hunts with my dogs are the exact same rates with $200 additional fee (not per gun, but total) per day for me and my dogs. I will book 3 hunters max per group if I am guiding. There are lot of birds this year with the late and repeated nesting conditions and multiple broods of chicks of differing ages being sighted. I am going to drive feed routes on all of these properties as soon as the weather cools just a bit more and I can put the dogs o the ground and get good bird counts. At that time I can give a full report on the numbers of quail expected on these hunts this season, which at this point looks like it will be a positive report. If hunting pen raised birds suits you, I know of a few places to do that in the D/FW area that have good flying birds (I use these from a couple of reliable bird breeders to train young dogs) and are relatively inexpensive hunts.
