I have a remington 770 chambered in .270...Like the way the gun feels but the only thing I do not like is the bolt. When I pull it back, it feels too loose and it does not load the round as smooth as I would like. There is some play in the bolt and it moves side to side. I oiled the action and worked it a bit. Probably has 20 or so rounds down the pipe. Question is...Am I missing something or is this just not a good model? Is there a fix? Faulty Bolt? Someone please give me some direction. Thanks

Lots of bolts will flop around when they're pulled all the way back-nothing unusual there. Not loading as smooth as you would like: not sure what's going on there. Is it not picking up the round as the bolt moves forward? Is something dragging? Is the bolt hard to close?

There is too much play in the bolt when pushing the round in...Picks up the round just fine...Bolt is not hard to close. Don't know....maybe I am just being paranoid....( or stupid)
Is this a good model gun? I have never heard anything bad on it but just curious to see if there are other opinions out there.

What you describe sounds normal for a 770. The fix is to have the bolt sleeved, I wouldn't put any money in a 770 trying to improve it.
Good model? no not really, it's the lest expensive Rem available, the overall quality of this model rifle is relative to its cost. It's low cost is attractive until you compare it to other similarly priced rifles.
It will kill whatever you hit with it. If you like the way it feels and shoots enjoy it.

The 770 has lots of flaws. I would not be bashful and say that this is the poorest excuse in quality that remington ever put out... A common problem of this action is the tang of the action will crack or break, that is where the rear most mounting screw holds the plastic action to the plastic stock. But I dont think that would cause the bolt to flop around anymore than it already does... I will say this, everytime I have ever needed any customer service from Remington, they have been awesome! I would advise you if you think it is not right, dont hesitate to call Remington and they will probably have you send it in. If it isnt right they will make it right. Good luck and good shootin!

I didn't want to be rude but since you have other rifles then I have to agree on the 770 being a pos. We bought my father one a few years ago, not knowing what I know now, and it's junk. I feel embarresed now looking at it. The trigger is so horrible that we couldn't even get a group with it. But it does what it was intended to do, be a entry level rifle.

My 770 in a 243 is pretty good, but my buddies 770 in a 300mag is a pile of crap. They are two totally different animals, it is weird. I don't have any of the bolt issues out of mine.
Now of course compare it to my model 700's and it is a pile. But for the money it is accurate and reliable enough that I have no issue using it.

Just looked at a 770 my BIL bought before season, took it to the range one time it broke, sent to Remington and got it back 2 months later right after season.

Bottom line is you get what you pay for. Not bashing your rifle, but its a lesser priced gun, so it will not be the same quality as say, a ruger or remmy 700 or whatever,

LOL lots of haters in here. Like I said, it isn't anywhere close to my 700 BDL but it performs flawlessly and is dead on at 100yards.
Far from a fence post or needing to be beat into something useful
