Will hogs eat alfalfa hay? I cant keep anything free choice out for the deer to eat because the hogs are so bad. I plan on building a pen around a protein feeder but cant right now.

We hunt in Llano and frequently feed Alfalfa. Haven't had any problem with hogs messing with it. We put 16 20' hog panels tied together to create a big pen that fits corn, protein, and hay feeders all in one. but have used it outside pen and haven't noticed hogs getting it. Deer will wear it out when needed!!

I've had them destroy round bales of Coastal Bermuda hay in the winter. And they were in a hay pen to keep cattle away, but bobwire don't stop hogs. Caught them in the act a couple of times.
Always keep the expensive alfalfa in the barn, so don't know about that. But I wouldn't put it past the hogs to eat anything. I have seen them eat some things that would make a buzzard puke!
If you have horses where you will put out the alfalfa, be careful.
Blister bugs in alfalfa grown in warm climates will kill a horse dead, but won't bother deer, or hogs for that matter.

And, if the hogs start eating your hay, you can buy some cheap hay feeder bags and hang them from a tree so the hogs can't reach them, but the deer can.
