We didn't get to hunt much this year but we have seen another big jump in our capabilities....If we saw ducks we came home with ducks in general. We need to become more mobile and more willing to get outside our comfort zones and I think we could see some limits next year. Hopefully the boat project will see completion this year and we will gain that mobility...
I've learned to call ducks a little better as well and that conventional methods of calling don't work as well at the end of the season....

Was an alright year. Got a couple limits but I stopped hunting a few weeks ago. I get tired of it after a couple months and usually don't hunt much in January.

Made 15 hunts this year. 10 solo, and 5 with my 14 yr. old nephew. No limits, but got my lab retrieving pretty good. Always got 2 or 3 ducks except for a couple of times.

Went about 25 times. 3 solo hunts. 3 skunks total. Season started slowly but after Christmas it was bad news for the ducks. Of course the season ends as the birds are here in great numbers.

Stupid pair bonding. Just shoot them both and you don't have to worry about it.

Very good, shot quite a few ducks, made some new friends, and I think I got my pops wanting to duck hunt more. Couldn't have asked for more. Well except for maybe a few quadruple banded mallards...

This was the worst season I've had in about 7 years. Barely bagged over 100 birds(including teal) as a whole for hunts I was on. I only had 3 skunks(1 in teal) but WAY too many 1 and 2 bird hunts. I still got out around 40 times, so that was good. I will say that we had some decent luck hunting in the afternoons this year.

It by far was less birds bagged in previous years, i saw 3 skunks and plenty of 1 and 2s coming, i also only got out 25 times, which my goal is always 35 in past.. This season was rough on boats and dogs, including my hull, 3 boats out of our crew went down in some form or fashion bang But all in all i still had a blast and would do it all over again!!

it was awful, 0 (zero) hunts this yr. Saw enough birds to justify going, just couldn't find the time.

I had a GREAT year. Finished up with a 4.9 duck per hunt average. Group totals for the year was 360 ducks. And that was on 22 hunts for a 16 duck per hunt average.

One of my best years ever.

Mine was awesome. First time I've ever been. I went twice and got 7 birds. 1 GWT, 1 Gaddie Drake, 2 Gaddie hens, and 2 ringnecks and a bluebill.

Our lease was not good this year. I only heard of a couple of good hunts out there and the rest were poor. We also got word that we lost one of our largest lakes to a couple of deer hunters leasing the property for more money.

Just curious. In the season band thread you said you shot 10 or 12 bands this year, maybe more?? If your whole crew only killed 75 ducks in 10 hunts thats pretty good odds for you to kill that many bands.

Yes Sir I said I credit 3 of the bands to last year which was my first year to ever shoot banded ducks and this year we killed 11 with bands. Which I guess I should have explained that the lanyard is a group laynard that we all put our bands on. The odds I dont know how it happened but it is what it is smile

11 out of 75 that's pretty impresive. What kind of ducks did the bands come off of? Did you take any pictures?

That is very impressive, I feel like I used to see a lot more banded birds than I do now. Maybe it's just th places I used to hunt.

Man, I must be doing it all wrong. hammer

It has been seven years since my last band. Give or take, I probably averaged 70 birds/yr.

That's almost 500 ducks with no bands!

I have to say,I didnt get to go much. But I did go 5 times.I killed ducks everytime.Sometimes hunted all day to do it but I got it done.i feel real lucky cause lots of freinds didnt see any ducks close Enoughg to shoot. When we didnt see many the ones we did see decoyed in and my "soft calling"Echo call really seemed to work. We had the greenheads "at our feet" alot.im a stickler about concealment.Thats the biggest thing for my success in my opinion. That and calling when birds are going away, softly.Literally i could have shot my limit everytime ,but im a bad shot.Switched from BBs and 2s to 4 shot and that fixed it.But it produced alot more cripples, and that means alot of finishing rounds.Im going to take some really small steel for those finishing shota next year, lesson learned.

Guns dont kill people.....bullets do.

Our season was a bit frustrating.....Also, it was the worst season bird number wise we've had in the last 10yrs.

We killed 343 ducks, 11 cranes, and 6 Canada geese on 27 hunts.

Birds per hunt average was low at 13.3.
Birds per hunter average was 4.56.

Gadwall was #1 Mallard #2 Teal #3 and Pintail #4

Really enjoyed the 2 Pintail limit this year though!

We did make a lot of great memories and had dome great hunts this year.

4.56 birds/hunter sounds pretty good. That's a lot better than most. Congrats.

Hmmmm my season.

Ups and Downs.

I had a good first few weeks. with teal spoonies woodies, and of course bologna snatchers. I would say that there were more birds in North Texas for the first few weeks than I have seen in years.

Then they got beat to death, and scattered. From the week before Thanksgiving till the second weekend of the 2nd season I was flat lost. Could not find em no where.

Then I got on some Mallards found an area holding them. Went to it 6 times left with Limits 4 times. Shot one OTM in there in 6 hunts. It was one of those deals that it was either GREAT or terrible. The other 2 hunts were terrible. Sunday was one of them. 3 birds came in. 3 birds stayed. That was it.

As a whole I would say it was a good season. I may never get to hunt any of the good hunting areas again. frown

If that is the case I have a lot of scouting to do for next year.
