Well i'm a new member so i'll give a lil about me before I start asking some questions. My name is stephan, i'm turning 18 this friday and i'm very excited about it. I have been wanting to get into hunting for quite a few years but haven't had the chance to do any. During the summer that passed a few friends of mine managed to take me out on some one's land and try hog hunting at night, for the first few nights we didnt see anything. One night while we were heading to a spot we would ussually sit and wait at I happend to snap a twig and from what my friend said, a 150 pound pig took off. Being dumbfounded at the moment, I didnt take a shot. So in all kindness asking the more wise hunters who know the land and the animals, could you give me tips on how to hunt, where to hunt, and how to "skin" these animals? Any and all information will be extremely helpful! I live in Greenville and I have no place to go hunting. I do not wish to haft to pay for guides so if there is any one who could help some young adults get into this sort of thing, I would be much obliged! Always willing to make friends along the way as well. I do own 1 high powerd rifle which I will use on any hunts, if I can find any that is. Its a 7.62x54r Mosin Nagant bolt action. I'm not quite sure if that will be good enough but its what I was able to afford. Thanks for your time! An hope to learn a few things!

don't forget to take the hunter safety course.

i found a all year hunting lease. i lay low during deer season and hunt hogs at night in the off season. pick the wettest spot on the lease. find someone in your area that traps and see if they need help. help them for free and they might be able to lead you to a good area or let them hunt with them.

your rifle should be good but you might look at ammo with Barnes TSX tips. it does a number on hogs. you are going to want/need some kind of light system. either a gun mounted light or hand held spot light. you could go the other route with a feeder light system and good low light scope with a IR if you want. night vision scopes are fun but pricey.

might sound funny but i learned to skin a hog on youtube.

True I do need to take the course for hunters, i'm looking into how I can do that as we speak. A lease? I'm taking it as thats one of those things where you rent or buy some land to hunt on right?

Any Idea where I could find some one who traps? Stores, grups, ect? I will be sure to look at the Barnes TSX tips, I have two different kinds of ammo for the gun, a FMJ 180 grain already reloaded russian light ball. The other is a Brown Bear Soft point with 203 grain bullet.

i live near greenville and would take you hunting but we dont use guns. just dogs and knife. but your chances are better this way.i have taken 27 this month alone and almost 300 each year for several years now. if you would like to stick or tie a hog instead of shooting one let me know

I would love the chance at having a chance like that! If its not too much of a hassle, would it be possible to take a friend of mine along as well?? I have a large bowie knife attacked to some bamboo for a spear that I had made, would that be appropriate for the situation? Or should I just use the bare knife? Thank you for replying btw!

get a type 2 ahp after you take hunter safety course, there is a lot of land you get to hunt for only $48 permit, works out good for us poor boys with no lease, i hit up my inlaws and anyone that will let me hunt their land, if you get permission to hunt someones land, respect it, pick up after yourself, offer to help around the land. mending fences and clearing areas that need it to help the landowner go a long way to being invited back. welcome and happy hunting!! after you get a permit, i would take my mosin and go with you somewhere, make it a mosin only hunt!

That would be an amazing hunt! Mosins all the way! haha, now just comes the fact of trying to get my hunters education, I was doing some reading and found out i need to take a field day? If so, i'll haft to find a way to do that. Keep in touch! i'm sure we can find a way to have that hunt become a reality!
