I was reading a post by KC about where to shoot a hog and did not want to high jack his thread so I am posting it here.
What I would like to know is where is the best to shoot a 250 to 300 lbs hog with a win 94 30-30 express core-lokt 150 Gr. sp. (right now that is the ammo I have) so I can keep the head in good shape for a euro mount. I would rather not have one with most of the skull missing. I will shoot smaller hogs in the ear but I would like to keep a few of the bigger ones.

no prob. the spine area is perfect for the .30-30. the particular load you stated will penetrate well, since it is heavy and not moving fast enough to expand rapidly, but it wont drop them in their tracks unless you hit the central nervous system. A heart/lung shot will definitely be fatal, but you will have to do some tracking as they will run like the wind until their body gives out.
