In the off season i am going to be retiring my current gun and moving up to a 12 ga. I do not know alot about shotguns or brands but would kinda like to hear what everyone uses and why? Looking for something within a $500.00 range. Thanks in advance.

I like my Mossberg 12 ga shoots great! Also a Remmington super 870 is a real good one as well. Me I stay away from Charles Daily

I'm a browning guy for shotguns, I currently shoot a Browning BPS hunter, love it.

Beretta 390 synthetic. Wal Mart has em right around your price range.

Give Winchester SXP a look. Every winchester I own has been nothing but reliable. I have a no longer made 1300 that has been through the wringer, and never misses a beat. It only gets a true strip clean once every 2 years. The rest of the time it is more like a wipe down.

I'll second that. Althought there are many reasons why one might nut up and buy a more expensive gun but I'll save that explanation.

i would go with the Browning BPS or a Beneli Super Nova. Both are proven in the field as good duck guns.

If you're looking for a pump go with the Benelli Nova or Browning BPS.
If you're looking for a semi-auto, you can't go wrong with that Beretta 390.
Mossberg has a reliable semi-auto in that range also.

Reliability is the key for any shotgun.

No bad days hunting

Just get an 870. It's not gonna cost you $500, so you'll have money left over. Why don't you talk to Josh about your options? He might even let you shoot one of his guns a bit to try it out.

BTW, you didn't mention if you wanted a pump or semi auto

X2. I shoot a BPS 10ga., been shhoting it for 10yrs now & it's never missed a beat. The bottom ejection sure makes picking up spent shells easy too.

Are you going more for a pump or semi-auto?

Pump -

Browning BPS
Benelli Super Nova
O.F. Mossberg 835

Semi-auto

Beretta 3901 (need just a little more than $500.00)

Save another $500 plus, and get a Browning Maxus!

Browning BPS for a pump

Beretta 390 for semi.

I think that's all you really need to know
