Headed to our day lease to scout south of cisco, In 1.5 hours saw 14 birds, only 1 that I would have had a shot at. Then went to Albany where i day hunted before, acres of sunflowers but no birds. That 5 inches of rain on the 17th really did a number on the birds and possibly my opening day if more don't move in.

fishon1017 probably means one that there was one close enough to shoot, had the season been open, etc.

What time did you go? If it wasn't from 6:30 to 10 am or 6 to 8 pm then sometimes nothing flies. If it was those times then hopefully something happens soon!!

I was there 1st light to about 7:30 in cisco than got to albany around 8:30. With all those sunflowers you would think you would see something. They got a week to come back, hopefully.

Man that stinks. Here is a quote from Ray Sassers DMN article:

"According to Jay Roberson, this could be one of those seasons when dove hunting is actually better in October than in September. Roberson is the state's dove program leader. He said the mild, rainy summer created excellent range conditions throughout most of the state.

"The first two days of the hunting season should be pretty good," Roberson said. "There's so much food and water available, however, that the resident birds will soon find areas where they're not being hunted. When the migratory doves arrive in large numbers in October, there should be less food available and the birds should be more concentrated." "

Yeah it did not look good did it fishon!! Well, at least there was some birds, after you left I saw some white wing flying, probably 20 or so. Hope something changes this week, but it still might be good.

Saw a group of 30 plus birds fly over my house while I was out on the front yard tweaking some things on my boat. That's never a good sign unless I get a pellet gun.

Several of us here in the Coleman area are prepared to have a clay pidgeon shoot if the birds aren't here. We'll have fun anyway!! As to that report by Jay Robertson, we have already been thinking along those same lines. Matter of fact, we discussed scraping the opener after the first day and giving our clients another hunt later in October!!

Two weeks ago the doves were everywhere out here in west Texas. Now, you cannot find a dove anywhere. What happened?

Then on top of all that looks like we're in for a rainy weekend too.

What has happened in just a week in this State? Did the birds get smart?

I betchya "PETA" is sending out some super-sonic waves to scare the birds off. It's a damn conspiracy. NOOOOOO!!!!
