Talked to Rotan and Nolan area this morning. Bad dove reports at both locations. Talked to spur area last week bad report there also. I will be going anyway since I have to plant a wheat patch.

Hope so! Last year in Spur we killed maybe 12 in three days after a big rain. We aren't going till 8/18 this year so hopefully they will move in then. I want the golden days of 15 minute limits at the tank! Nah, I never had those but have to hear about it all the time from my buddy. I am just blessed to be able to go and hunt.

I read somewhere TPWD or news that a biologist said October will probably be better than Sept based on rain amounts and past trends.

I have looked at almost every field in Young County and most have no dove. There is way too much grass under most sunflowers for the birds to scratch. If you do your homework and lease a place with minimal grass and good seed, you will find good numbers of birds. A lot of seed isn’t ready either. White-wings are good within 2 miles of Graham or Olney. The highest concentrations are north of Olney and East of Graham. Throckmorton, Haskell, and Palo Pinto seem to be completely dead in most places. I have seen above average numbers in Erath, Wichita, Callahan, and parts of Archer County. We will know a lot more in a few days!

I'd say unless conditions CHANGE, anything South of 20 Stevensville, Strawn, Mingus, Dumas, Deleon, Ranger etc looked grim to say the least. Honestly we could not have shot a 2 man limit from all the birds we saw. Was on the first field by 5:45, we saw a lot of good looking sunflower, milo, etc but no birds to speak of.

I went to my place just SSW of Bowie Saturday and didn't even see a dove in the area.

If you have access online or can get an Abilene Reporter News newspaper, in the outdoor section is a prospect on the dove season by the outdoor writer. Seems interesting enough to read if you can get it.

that is today's paper, Sunday, August 26, 2007.

Regards,
Mud

here's a link to another read from the paper, as I could not find the one that Muddabber refers to:

Good to hear a positive story! I check out my favorite field during lunch today, it was absolutely covered in dove, more than I have seen all year. It is the field north of Dallas to the north and west of Wal-Mart at Coit and 190. Also, that sunflower field just east of Coit on the south side of 190, that sunflower field was just covered with dove, again more than I have ever seen, the telephone lines look like they were gonna break and dove flying everywhere.

UH? You can't hunt those fields right? I passed by there yesterday and my trigger finger was going mad. Hopefully they fly south just a bit to the Milo fields in Nevada where I'll be Opening day. Fingers crossed, but from the sounds of things recently, I'm glad I didn't go out West like last year. We'll see....I know one thing...something is getting shot opening day.

I filled up at Sams on Monday and I concur, there are more doves there than ever. Must have saw well over 1,000. Is hunting banned in Plano city limits! It shouldn't be on that field.

I think west is the way to go still. WAY WEST!! http://www.dailybulletin.com/ci_6704620

I just walked the fields at Frankford and Waterview. Hundreds of birds. Sigh.

We drove out to the day lease by Texas Motor Speedway last night to make sure we knew where it was and pay up. It was completely covered up with birds at 6:00... Hundreds of them. Last I saw it like this was about 10 years ago. Good luck Y'all

Guy,

I work very close to that same field and it drives me crazy to go by there. Sooooo many birds that I think you could limit with a pocket full of rocks and a good throwing arm.
