Looking to purchase larger caliber rifle. What is the difference between 338 rem ultra mag and 338 win mag ? Either one kick more ? Either ammo more available ?

The 338 Ultra Mag will absolutly stomp the snot out of you!!!!
I have owned a couple of 338 Win Mags and the recoil was tolerable. I had a friend that had a 338 Ultra and the recoil was on a whole different level.
If you think you need more gun than the 338 Win Mag then step up to the 375 H&H. Usually a 375 H&H is a heavy gun so you feel less recoil.
338 Win Mag ammo is much easier to find and cheaper too.
You could not pay me to own a 338 Ultra Mag and trust me I have shot guns way bigger than that with far less felt recoil!

If a 338 win mag wont do it it aint meant to die.

I agree with JCB. If you want more than a 338 win mag step up to the 375 h&h.
I owned one 338 win mag in a Savage (oh Lord forgive me) and it did have some kick but nothing that wasn't tolerable. I did shoot one pig with it and needless to say it did the job.

.338win ammo will be much cheaper and easier to come buy and you will not notice the difference if you shoot a moose with them

I have had the opportunity to shoot both calibers. Both of them also had muzzle brakes. The 338 RUM definitely had more kick. It felt like a 300 win mag to me. The 338 Win mag felt more like a .270.
