Kobeer is a(the) fan of Hoyts on the site. I have actually never shot a hoyt but the look appears quite bulky to me with the additional support around the grip area. They are built like tanks but I've always thought there were slow for what you get. Their IBOs are about 5 years dated and they aren't anything additional to say well at least they are ______ so its ok to be that slow...

I would take a real hard look at the Z7 which is quite a bit slower, but more compact and super quiet, The Destoryer 340 which is much faster (25FPS to me counts as much) and very quiet. The draw on the Destroyer's are smooth and they are very calm and quiet after the shot. I shoot an Omen which is plenty fast and actually very quiet but it is very unforgiving and the draw cycle is pretty hateful.

Now unless you either A plant to keep the bow for 5 years or B really just want to throw away money I would be looking for a 1 year old bow preferrably with new strings. There are websites full of guys that just finished the season that are dying to get into the latest and greatest bow. This year there isn't anything so revolutionary that would wouldn't be just as good off going with a great condition 2010 bow and saving yourself major bucks.

You should be able to get any of the mentioned bows in the 500-700 range instead of the nearly $1k new price tag.

Now the other advice that you will always here is so very true, go to a pro shop and shoot whatever bows they stock. See what you think of them and let the bow decide for you.

The hoyt alphaburner would probably be the only Hoyt I'd consider due to its speed being more up to par, but as Kobeer says I just like to miss faster to get it over with.

You must add Elite to the mix... Not VERY common in bow shops, but making a big commotion over at the archerytalk forums! I am sold - hook, line and sinker!

I was planning on buying the Bowtech Destroyer or even the new Invasion when it came out, but I went and shot the new Assassin by Bowtech and was sold. It comes loaded so you do not have to add any accessories, although I will be replacing some of them myself. At All-Star Archery in Lewisville they are selling for $599 ready to go. IBO speed is 333 fps which is faster than the Z7. It is a sweet bow and will not break the bank. I HIGHLY suggest you go shoot one.

Scott, Hoyt uses AMA speeds on there bows not IBO. That is why there bows tend to shoot closer to their speed specs than other manufacturers when shooting the typical huntjing setup.

I just bought a used 2010 model Hoyt TurboHawk. Very quiet and groups very nicely. I'm personally a fan of a smaller more compact bow. I would check out ArcheryTalk.com...lots of good deals.

You can't go wrong with a Mathews Switchback XT. Best bow Mathews has made IMO. Great bow and should be able to find a good used one that is decked out for well under $1k. Just a thought.....

Happy bow "hunting!"

It also matters on the shooter. Just some bows make it easier.

I am partial to Bowtech myself, but the Assassin shoots faster than both the z7 and the z7 extreme and costs much less... seems like a no-brainer to me...

Go to a pro shop and shoot a bunch of bows and find one that fits you. I upgraded 6 years ago by doing this, shot them all and settled for a Parker phoenix, I absolutely love it and it has taken every species in Alaska for me without a single issue. Cold weather doesnt even become a problem.

I am completely new to bow hunting and went to the pro shop and shot the Mathews Z7 extreme, Bowtech Assassin and Hoyt CRX32... a lot. Those guys got probably got real tired of me going back and forth between bows.

I have no brand loyalty so it came down to which one felt better to shoot. In my case it was the Hoyt hands down, but my guess is you cannot go wrong with any of those.

Out of all of the new bows I shot the destroyer was the last on my list. The Hoyt CRX shot very well as did the z7 but once I shot the Elite Pulse I was sold. $100 cheaper than the rest and its smoking the competition. Try them all out and then make your decision, its all about you!

The new Bowtechs look cool! I gotta give them a few years though. Bowtech's limbs are known for exploding and cracking.
