I just ordered one of these the other day.. It's coming with a Nikon coyote special on it.. does anyone have one of these that can tell me what to expect in accuracy?? I know some of you will say should have got a 223.. well the plan is to let the 11 year old daughter use it in deer season.. anywho what would be a good all around 243 round to use.. I'm thinking of just going with 100g core-Loked?? what do yall think.. any help would be appreciated

My son smoked his first whitetail this year with cheap ol Express rile, 80 grain .243 from Remington. He is 12. Said he didn't notice any recoil...

Use the Barnes 85 grain TSX

Should be less recoil for the little one and its a devastating round or coyotes and Texas whitetail

I have been pleased with Hornady 95gr SST's. I have used them in factory Hornady ammo, which is available from a couple of local retailers for less than $25 a box, and I have found it to be very consistent and accurate.. I have also loaded some myself with good results. It's plenty for deer, a bit much for coyotes, but will work.

There's so much I don't know that I don't even know what I don't know.

243 better all around caliber and great for kids.

I have basically the same gun in 22 250. As far as accuracy , Very.
I would shoot several brands of ammo to see what the gun likes to eat. For the price difference in only a few dollars a box, I would go ahead and shoot a deer load even though the 58gr vmax would be devasting. I would not shoot corelokts, they are junk. You spent good money on a precision hunting gun, use a precision bullet. Hornady's and Federals is where I would start.

My dad has the same exact gun and its a tack driver. He uses the Hornady SST 95gr. He has taken all his deer in the past 5 years with it and we hunt in the panhandle where the big deer are. The longest track we had on one of his deer was about 75yds. Great little gun.

Every deer I have killed with my .243 has been with 100 grain corelokts....I find your statement humorous. I would say thats been somewhere in the range of 25-30 with my .243.

I made my statement because most of the keyboard hunters here buy the green/yellow box because of price. Because a premium bullet cost a little more they may never know what the gun is capable of. Yes Core lokts kill deer fine, as well as vmax.

My point is spend a few extra bucks and see if your gun groups better with good ammo instead of buy the cheap.

So now you're saying they're not junk? You've been hanging out with BMD too long. smile j/k

I actually would like to do some testing to see which ones group better but 99% of my shots are cold bore and I haven't missed where I was aiming in a very long time.

I too wondered about a .243 for a varmint gun.
Does the barrell heat up significantly more than say a comparable (same gun make/model) .22-250?? Recoil difference?
