Has anyone ever tried catching hogs with a snare. I found a place on the web that sells hog snares. Just curious.

Yep use 1/8 and block it low so deer can't get in. Bait with fish oil or anything other than what a deer would like and you should be good. If you use a choke stop, make sure the whole thing is hooked up to a nice sized tree or when you show up it may get wild.

We have used them, put them in the holes in fences that the hogs use. Most of the time we tie the snare to a large stump or a tree trunk(not atached to the ground). This way they cant really break it, and have caught them up to 250 lbs and none have made it more than a couple yards, less than 10. Be warned you catch all kinds of things in snares from racoons to porquipines and FAWNS, they are indiscriminant killers.
They were the one thing that proved to be able to put hog populations in check were we hunted. We were over run with hogs, shooting and traping had little to no effect, we night hunted and still had no effect, but if you walk your fence and put a snare over every hole they come through, youwill begin to not see hogs(kinda need netting fences for this to work)

YUP, WE WENT TO HOME DEPO AND BOUGHT SOME WIRE AND MADE ARE OWN. IT ONLY COST LIKE 8.00 $. TWO DAYS LATER WE HAD A HOG SNARED. WE SET IT UP ON A ACTIVE HOG RUN AND USED BUTTERMILK CORN. ITS A LOT CHEAPER THAN BUYING A HOG TRAP.

I've thought about it... I found this guys video a few months back. Seems to really know his stuff. It's a little long and his constant reference to "follow the natural flow" gets annoying but he shows how to make deer stops... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YFqGS7W8TA
