Is the firing pin hitting the primers solid would be first question?

Yes indention is on the primer but not as deep as other fired shells.4 shells out of the same box from 2 diffrent encore rifles still have 4 shells out of the same box have not fired.changed boxes of shells but same kind.

Sounds like firing pin issue, not the shells, something is preventing pin from hitting the primer as hard as should, a good cleaning will likely solve the issue

Have seen something similar to this in really cold conditions with a freshly cleaned rifle that had to much oil or grease on the bolt and firing pin. Would not allow the firing pin to make enough contact.

I Hear you which seems odd, but everytime it has happened to me it was gun not the primers, I have no experience with an encore, it has happened to me in my bolt rifles and the bolt needed to be cleaned, still doubt if it is shell.

I had this problem about 3 months ago. I was shooting the Hornady .308 SST Light Magnums in a custom bench gun. The rounds were some overstack that I had from a couple of years ago. I tried 8 shots. 2 did not fire, 3 fired w/o any problems and 3 more fired but when I ejected the shells, the primer had fallen out!. I sent the remainder to Hornady w/ an explanation and they sent me a new box of the Superformance SST's.

Out of all the ammo I've ever shot, Hornady has never given me an issue. Weird you should have an issue. I would contact the manufacturer.

I use those in my Winchester semi-auto. I've never had a problem in the three years I've used them.

I started shooting HORNADY when they were FRONTIER and have never had a problem. Their QC is usually top notch.

Of course what I have seen happen, people will come into a store with ammo concealed, and switch it out with new ammo on the shelf! Caught a young man doing that with some reload stuff he was trying to switch with Winchester Silver Tips!

I have used those same rounds in my rifle and haven't had any problems.

I've had similar issues with striker fired pistols and certain brands of ammo. But this is a rifle we're talking about here.

Winchester White Box and Hornady's Critical Defense don't work well with my M&Ps striker but I think the striker is getting worn out and it's not necessarily the ammo. Anyway, the culprit usually has turned out to be the striker being too light.

I do know that there is a fair differnce between the strength of different primers by different makers so I might look at the firing pin spring also, maybe compare it to others out of the same kind of rifle and see if they're the same strengths.

Shot a butt load of Hornady and never had a problem. First thought was some gumming around the firing pin, then you mentioned using two different guns. So,to be honest I have nothing of value to add. confused2

as some have said, ive never had an issue with Hornady, great quality ammo. I would hate to think Hornady would produce ammo that would fail to fire. Especially since the stuff costs so much. Thanks for the feed back. Im glad theyre firing in your weapons now.
