Where can i get the info on how many ducks are banded each year?

Along the Gulf of Mexico coast, the Mottled Duck is one of the most frequently banded waterfowl. This is due in part to the fact that it is mostly non-migratory. Approximately one out of every twenty mottled ducks is banded, making it an extremely prized and sought after bird among hunters.

I've shot somewhere around 10 mottled ducks, one was banded.

The answer to your question is somewhat a regional thing. If you are in South Texas no doubt the mottled duck. If you are in North Texas it is the mallard. We average about one band to 200 mallards. Woodies, pintails, and teal would be tied for your distant seconds up here. Some areas in South Texas and the coast are 1-10 if you are near a location that they band them. We used to hunt an area down there that was over 100 miles from the nearest place that banded them on a regular basis. We prolly killed 150-200 mottles over the course of 5 years and got one band.

That guy on here with a GWT/mallard and sprig band?? That's a million to one odds I'd say. Lucky sucker

2 bands in my 30+ years of duck hunting and both were Mallard.

I have been hunting with the same 2 guys for 26 years.
I have one banded pintail, snow goose and gadwall along with two banded mallards.
Barry has one banded wigeon, mallard and Canada goose.
Paul has a banded dove, red head, and two mallards.
And one other guy we occasionally hunt with has one double banded mallard with a $50 reward band!! I was on all but two of the hunts.
But by far from my experience it is the MALLARD that is most banded and then killed!
If you looking for bands, hunt a major FLYWAY!!

This is my 31st duck season. I have more Mallard bands than any others. 20 bands total. 15 from mallards. One each of Canada goose, Bluewing Teal, Redhead, Woodduck, Pintail.

All but two were shot in Oklahoma.
Use to be. Not so much now that farming has stopped in the area.
Teal season and Regular Duck season both I average 43 hunts per year. Have made 37 hunts this season with this week and next week in Oklahoma to go.

You had one in there that was almost 20 years old, that's pretty cool.

Yes, A Canada Goose I shot after Duck season closed that year.

If I'm reading that right it was banded in South Dakota in mid-January, then it was in Oklahoma in mid-january the year it was taken? Must have been a warm winter in '74...

ive shot 4 and got a banded one!

That would be my guess for 1974. I know for a fact that the day before I shot it we got over 8 inches of snow at my house. Cold spell in 1992

50 trips year is a lot !!. (unless you live on the place!!) I don't and hunt 25 to 30 times a year and think thats too much.
